Kia ora helpers!
Our beautiful home is in the middle of Honeymoon Valley, surrounded by native bush - remote and relaxingly quiet! We built this house with mud-bricks from local clay and we created roof gardens.

We live 20 min drive from Taipa, Doubtless Bay, 330 km North of Auckland. The subtropical Far North of NZ is the 'birthplace' of New Zealand/Aotearoa, as we know it today and has significant historic sights and stories.

We are part of a land-care group protecting our forest and native birds by trapping predators and we eradicate invasive plants to make room for native bush. We have no TV and limited WIFI. There is a river to swim in and lots of nature to explore. We have a piano, a guitar, and drums. We like music, singing, nature, films, literature and art.

We need help with chopping fire wood, gardening, orchard work, renovating (fixing wood work, painting), sewing, cleaning, maintenance, collecting seeds, chickens, home-brew beer, baking bread, in season - ma... more inside

You will find us nestled in the bush 30kms east of Whangarei at Pataua North. The river is at the end of our driveway perfect for fishing and kayaking. The surf beach is an easy 7kms away and we have surf boards and kayaks available to use. Working with us is mainly weeding and potting plants in our plant nursery located on our property and helping out at the Whangarei Farmers Market on Saturday mornings. Generally work is 4 hours per day but help in the kitchen is always appreciated. We have a cabin available with a small bedroom containing single bunk beds and its own shower and kitchenette, or there is an option to stay in a room in the house. We are a married couple with 3 teenage children who come and go and a small dog.

Our place is a lifestyle block which is bordered by a stream and sits between the Puketi forest and Kerikeri and the Bay of Islands.
We are looking for someone to help us around the section and around the house. You will stay in a self-contained cottage - but hopefully spend some quality time with us each day.
We are a couple of empty-nesters but our friendly dog compensates for that :) Son and daughter are sometimes home but otherwise working and studying in Auckland.
We try to treat our helpers as family rather than unpaid help. So there would be some work to be done around the property and plenty of relaxing time too!

The Longhouse is situated in Kerikeri, 15 mins walk from the shops and a 5 minute walk to the historic Stone Store, and Stone Store basin. There are plenty of walking tracks nearby to explore and there are bicycles for you to use. You can arrange to go kayaking with our neighbours at NZ Sea Kayak Adventures: nzkayaktours.com

Helpers can sometimes help with general gardening, which may include mowing (and ride-on mowing), weed-eating, weeding vegetable garden, and general property maintenance and house painting/maintenance/housekeeping.

Helpers are asked to spend four hours (or by arrangement) for every night they stay by helping us either in the garden or house, and we prefer to have 2 helpers staying to help each other (over 20 years of age). There are up to 2 bedrooms and a bathroom available. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided. If you travel to Kerikeri by bus we can pick you up at the bus stop in town.

Free wi-fi is available.

We've lived overseas for many years, including time in South America, Asia and the Middle East, and returned six years ago to start our 'off grid adventure'. Having 'internationalized' it's been time to put some roots down (literally) in a sustainable, creative and co-evolutionary way. These days we're a family of four (kids aged 3 and 6) and a friendly dog. We speak some Spanish and a little Japanese and would receive foreigners eagerly (also fellow NZers of course). We're one hour's drive from the nearest towns (Kaitaia and Kerikeri) although a small organic co-op is twenty-five minutes away. Neighbours include a Bee-Keeper and his family, artists, potters and homesteaders, some of whom are open to receiving helpers who may wish to spend more time in the area.
People wishing to learn about setting up off-grid so that they can do so themselves would be able to pick up valuable skills at our place. Because we are still building our home, accommodation and facilities are limited. H... more inside

We have cherished our beautiful wilderness property for over 40 years. A rocky pure stream runs through native forest, with a deep swimming hole within a few metres of our house and garden. We grow most of our own food - vegetables, fruit, nuts, and beef. Lovely owner-built, timber and book-lined home. Accommodation for helpers is in spacious loft in a separate building with deck and running water; you share our bathroom.

We are readers, thinkers, nature lovers, we write, paint, enjoy good conversation, music, art, movies. We are looking for help with all the work entailed in a life-style aiming at self sufficiency, including building maintenance, painting, land care, cutting and stacking firewood, work with trees and gardens. Experience in building/carpentry is appreciated.

Stays from a few days to a week or so. You will need your own transport. Couples are preferred. In exchange for your work for 4 hours a day on a flexible basis, we will provide good meals, including vege... more inside

Tena koutou katoa!
Hullo everyone!

#Warning# ;-)
We enjoy working hard and you will need to as well. We like to host people who are interested in our way of life. We do most things by hand, even if it takes a while sometimes!

We live in a small forest with our children, animals, gardens and orchard. We grow most of our own food. Usually we have several goats, cows, horses, chickens and pigs. Our home is made from recycled and natural materials. It's small, simple and rugged like most things here.

My name is Amandine and my partner is Tyler. We are 37 and 34 years old. And we now have 2 energetic children; Rosalie (born in 2016) and Gabriel (born in 2019). I work at the hospital as a casual and at home I make cheese, look after kitchen pets and plant seeds compulsively. Tyler is a farrier and builds farm fences sometimes but our own farm and gardens are our main priority.

We always have a variety of work to keep you interested. At the moment there is lots of garden and... more inside
