Kia Ora Koutou

We are YOUNG couple in our early 40s with four children aged 16, 14, 11 and 10. We manage a large sheep and cattle station on the Coast of the lower North Island with 20,000 stock units of sheep and beef cattle. Check out the station facebook page "owahanga station" for more information.

We are looking for helpers to come and stay with us and help out with farm tasks, gardening, farm maintenance and general tasks around the home. There is lots of variation in the types of jobs that we need help with and anyone with practical skills and experience would be super. Working with livestock does require skills and experience so sometimes it is not possible for helpers to work with the stock much but that is not always the case and at certain times of the year, there will be plenty of work with stock to do. However, there are plenty of other tasks to do like cutting and stacking wood, painting, weed spraying and the like if there isn't much happening with stock.

My place is on the Kapiti coast about 5km north of the village of Waikanae. The property is some three and a half acres in extent planted with mainly native trees. The front boundary is on Peka Peka Beach looking out to Kapiti Island. The houses at Peka Peka have to be set back 70 meters from the shore so they cannot be seen from the beach which thus has a remote feel and is a good place for walks, swimming, gathering shellfish or just sitting contemplating.

My wife is in permanent care and I am living here on my own. Helpers need to cater for themselves. Tasks would include clearing overgrown areas, removing some flax bushes and a variety other outdoor jobs.

Helpers stay in a self contained cottage which has its own kitchen and bathroom and a separate bedroom with a double bed and a single bed. The house I live in was built on top of the cottage and is connected to it by a stair way. I have been letting the cottage to visitors through airbnb and have had excellent r... more inside

We are now looking for helpers to assist mainly with gardening and general maintenance over the spring and summer.

We offer a working experience on a traditional small farm and horse stud, living in one of the oldest homesteads in the Wairarapa.

We are located 20km east of Masterton, with substantial gardens, lawns and grass tennis court overlooking a large lake.

There is always plenty of general maintenance required in the stables, surrounding gardens and buildings and clearing overgrown areas around the lake.

Our large two story homestead has seven bedrooms, three bathrooms and several living areas for just us, a young 47 year old couple and three dogs, so there is plenty of space.

As we are isolated having your own transport is preferred.

Leisure activities include boating on the lake, tennis and horse riding. Cellphone coverage is limited but we have good internet access.

We also host weddings and private functions, mainly in the summer months, so enter... more inside

We have 3 acres in the wonderful Wairarapa just 5 minutes drive from Masterton with beautiful views of the Tararua mountain range and a hop and a skip from local vineyards. We have a great local swimming river and walks and biking tracks (borrow our bikes) and only 1 1/2 hours to our wonderful capital Wellington.

Our place has over 100 fruit and nut trees and a variety of interesting vegetables growing and have a composting system and 12 chickens. Some helpful machinery make work easier, a ride on mower and a cultivator as well as a wood chipping machine that makes short work out of large piles of prunnings.

I follow permaculture and organic principles and am working hard to make our place as resilient as possible against climate change.

We are happy to take one or two people - friends or a couple and you will be doing a good variety of gardening and orchard work as we further develope our property. We have a lot of planting to do in the next few weeks as we establish our ... more inside
