Due to the virus, I am not taking new helpers just now. Thank you for all the offers and if you'd like to be added to my waiting list, please let me know. If you're already in England and would like a very peaceful rural existence for a while: I have injured my knee and can't care for my horses alone.
Usually I prefer horsy experience, but just now, if you can push a wheelbarrow, you're in!
If you'd appreciate some solitary time, away from the rat race, maybe this could be for you! Horse experience an advantage.
I am a semi retired teacher with a love of the countryside, my animals, wildlife, cycling, art, music and dancing. I live in the beautiful Lincolnshire Wolds in a tiny cottage, in the hamlet of Miningsby on the Revesby Estate. It's very rural and rather isolated. No shops within walking distance, but with pretty market towns just 10 minutes' drive away. Our nearest train station is in Boston, which can be reached via either Grantham or Peterborough from most towns with... more inside

We've been part of Helpx for several years now and have met some wonderful people, many of whom we still keep in touch with.

We live in York, in the north of England, where we have a garden and (a 10 minute walk away) an allotment where we grow fruit and vegetables.

We try to cultivate using the `no-dig` method and like to re-use and recycle wherever possible.

Our house has solar panels on the roof for water and electricity as we are keen to reduce our impact on the environment.

The work includes turning and spreading compost, making new beds and paths, weeding, seed sowing, planting out, grass cutting and fence painting.

From early summer, fruit and vegetables are ready to be harvested and prepared for freezing and conserving.
If the weather is bad then there are always jobs to get on with in the house, garage and greenhouse.

We can offer all meals, laundry and accommodation, (own bathroom) in return for a helping hand, usually around 4-5 hours a day, 5/6 days a ... more inside

Riding is available (during free time) for someone reasonably experienced (and of a suitable height and weight) and who has their own riding insurance and can bring their own helmet and suitable footwear.

We are easy going and enjoy what we do and love our animals. We ask that you are easy going too and flexible as some days there may be more to do while on other days there will be less. Days off... more inside

UPDATE March 2020
Important personal note re: Coronavirus / Covid-19:

Due to the rapid and worrying development of the Covid-19 Coronavirus, and the "different" (but I believe sensible) approach being taken by the UK Government, I am not currently taking helpers on my narrowboat. Indeed all unnecessary travel is currently forbidden and for many of you just getting here and away would be difficult, if not impossible. Added to that is the need to avoid as much contact as possible with other people and the fact that the UK National Health Service will shortly become overwhelmed with people needing intensive care as a result of the virus.

We all hope this situation will improve over the next few months. However it is looking increasingly likely that the World will, sadly, not be the same as before. I will eagerly invite helpers once again when things improve. Please follow the precautions and guidelines wherever you are and stay safe! I feel for you all....

PS: If there are a... more inside
