Hi HelpXers,

*Please also see latest update and plans at the bottom of our profile. Thank you!

Mum (Pat) and I (James) moved here about 7 years ago to get some land, escape the busy city consumer lifestyle and start on a path of sustainability and self-sufficiency. My partner Holly is also staying here with us. We are starting to produce our own organic food, water, energy, materials and much more. Basically trying to remove the dependencies we have on big corporations and the failing economic system. I believe we need to re-establish community, sharing, loving and helping each other, rather than pursuing our manufactured need for money, big TVs, fast cars and bling etc!

Short term we are looking for someone to help with jobs such as weeding, potting up, wood chipping, splitting logs, digging, housework, woodwork/repairs, strimming, re-pointing the stone walling and paving slabs, hedge cutting etc. Being familiar with basic tools such as a saw and drill would be useful.

One or two mature people welcome to spend some time in South West Wales. We have an old building in the garden that requires some work, mixed with gardening, cleaning, dog walking, and general help, nothing on the list is compulsory, so if you don't like gardening don't let that put you off coming to visit this wonderful part of the country. Any skills, and jack-of-all-trades especially welcome. Double room available for 1 or 2 persons, central heating, TV, Wi-Fi, Home cooked food, and in a great position to explore the beautiful location. We are a coastal walk from Strumble Head, and we have seals, and the occasional dolphin in the area. What are your plans for October 2020 or in Spring 2021? - We need two friends or a couple who would enjoy being in the Highlands. Are you free for Spring 2021? We will reopen both the gardens and the holiday cottages then. We shall need some extra assistance for them both.

We are in Wester Ross near the Isle of Skye. We hope to hear from you. This place would suit either two friends or a couple as space is limited. You would have your own separate accommodation.

Do you want to explore the Isle of Skye and the North West Highlands? Ideally for a minimum of three weeks, preferably one month please. In recent years we have had at least three volunteers returning for a second time, which must be a recommendation! Check out their reviews below.

We are a small holding on the Southern slopes of the Lammermuir hills looking out over the Tweed valley towards the Cheviot hills. This is a very peaceful rural location. We are renovating an old farm cottage using green oak framing and traditional stone mason skills. Anyone with these skills or enthusiasm to learn and good attention to detail will be most welcome. There will be additional opportunities to use or develop skills in timber frame building and welding. We keep a small flock of geese and assistance with these and general household tasks is also on the agenda. Simon is a forest manager and part-time saw miller so there will be opportunities to use or develop skills in these fields too. We stay in a mobile home with wood burner and compost loo. We also have a wood fuelled hot water boiler to provide baths/showers. We usually prepare and eat meals communally. Sleeping accommodation for visitors is in a separate touring caravan.
