Looking for 1 or 2 volunteers to assist in replacing rotted structural timbers in a WW2 Motor Torpedo Boat with new frames cast from thin shell fibre reinforced concrete. The work can be messy, mostly below deck level and involves lifting. Volunteers requested starting June 2020.

Shoreham by Sea is on the south coast 6 miles west of Brighton. The houseboat moorings are on tidal mudflats and accessible from the towpath. The sea is less than 200 yards and is popular with kite and windsurfers.

The work is all involved with the maintenance and renovation of historic boats which are mostly used as houseboat accommodation. I use a minimum of new materials, aiming to create environment friendly, aesthetically pleasing and ergonomically functional living spaces. I currently am responsible for 7 boats over 30 foot and struggling with the work load. The joy of working with houseboats, (especially ours where we own our mooring plots) is that they are not subject to planning permission o... more inside

Beautiful views and a lovely rural setting close to an alternative town with plenty going on (Hebden Bridge) nestled between Manchester and Leeds in the South Pennines. We are also on a bus route and near a train station.

I would love people to help me with my smallholding and meadows. I have two cows to graze the land and a flock of chickens.

There are meadows with a stream running through. The plan is to develop the meadows for wild flowers, generate woodland along the stream and create a pond area to increase biodiversity. There is also a growing veg plot and newly planted orchard.

I am not registered organic but have an organic sensibility. I follow a basic permaculture principle and am focused on resource management.

I need help with whatever I am doing. I'm usually outside (whatever the weather), removing problem plants, generally weeding, planting, painting, building dry stone walls, making paths, moving stones or working on out-buildings. If the weather is very ... more inside

Being sensible not fearful in keeping a safe house for all, in light of Coronavirus. Open for business and to any with a positive mindset and community/family spirit who need a home at this time.

HomeHelp required immediately, for around a month, or longer. AND ongoingly, as I have back to back volunteers all year, so do check back later in the year if that suits you better.

Do you like to work in the garden? Do you like dogs? I take in rescue dogs and then rehome where I can, you definitely need to like animals. At the moment I'm in need of help to get the garden ready for visitors who pay to view it in aid of charity.

I am a strictly non smoking place both inside and out. Smokers including those who vape, will be asked to leave. I have had several helpers here who think it is not a problem to vape or smoke if they are in a different room or outside but I really find it makes me feel quite sick and the clothes of smokers also smell which then comes into the house.

Can you speak English, do you like animals and working outdoors?

I ask for about 5 hours a day and am in The South West of England a lovely area in the country close to Dartmoor National Park and also the Devon/Cornwall border. very scenic close to great walking country. 2 kilometres away there is a huge supermarket which sells everything from food to washing machines, it... more inside

Looking for

A person who seeks a true cultural exchange in England for a few months or more. Send me a message with your details if you are interested and we'll arrange to have a chat about your plans.

About Me

Hello! How are you? My name is Andy and I've been hosting people for years now both with Helpx and other organisations. I appreciate spending my time with people like me who want to learn more about this strange and wonderful planet we all occupy. I get on with people who care about others and want to learn more about themselves. I have learnt a lot from my time hosting people and my journey continues.

I am a well-educated person and believe that life is a continual learning experience, I like listening to the music of most genres, watching a good film and watching documentaries. I am interested in matters of environmental sustainability, climate change, current affairs, psychology, history, politics, philosophy and technology. I have a good sense of humour, I l... more inside

***
We are close to town and sea with Dartmoor nearby.

Whilst we do prefer longer stays we will take people for as little as 3 weeks. But not less than 3 weeks, we find that the early days can be difficult for everyone and it takes a while to get to know each other. It also takes time for helpers to learn the routines.

Philosophy:
We have a small holding in Devon where we aim to grow as much of our own food as we can in an organic and sustainable way. So we have a small orchard a Kitchen Garden for vegetable growing, a fruit garden for soft fruit plus half an acre of flower gardens. We also have poultry (Chickens, various ducks, and geese) and there are bees which belong to a friend. The poultry are not for eating, but do provide us with a plentiful supply of eggs for most of the year.
Although not self sufficient in fruit and vegetables we do try to grow what we can, so there is usually fresh veg in season.
All that we do here is on an organic basis often growing herita... more inside

Our farm is a beautiful place, where animals, birds, plants and humans all live in a natural, healthy and happy way. Our chickens, geese, ducks, guinea fowl and a turkey roam free all over the farm. We have milking goats. We have a Jersey cow with a calf and pigs. We are learning beekeeping. We grow organic vegetables and fruit and we have planted hundreds of trees. Our farm is developing in a happy organic and permaculture way. It forms the basis of our family business of writing and publishing books about using food as medicine. As a family we are firmly committed to producing natural organic food in a sustainable way. Our farm is an integral part of our business and an invaluable part of our research; the food we produce demonstrates the value of natural diet in health of humans, animals and the land. We will be happy to welcome young people who want to work with land and animals, who love our Planet and want to restore it back to health, one farm at a time.
