Our place is named after an Aboriginal word for 'quiet place'. Our property is 30 mins from Adelaide. We have 450 avocado trees that produce fruit that is sold at local Farmers Markets. We also keep bees for pollination & we graze sheep. We have kangaroos & koalas as regular visitors. Work includes picking/packing avocados, tree pruning, tending large vegetable garden, general property maintenance. The property is very hilly / steep so you do need to be physically fit during harvest...Accom for 1-2 people in our house. Children b.a. Mixed diet - no special diets. Non-smokers only. Prefer stays of at least 7 days.

I am a resident at the Aboriginal Writers Retreat in 2011. My literary year will be spent writing my memoir, which includes my poetry career over 30 years, including my travels around the world including Germany, Italy, Spain and Latin America. It would really benefit my work to utilise the computer skills of a volunteer for 4 hours per day, in exchange for food and accom. I am also an Aboriginal artist, and could share these skills. The mid north of SA is a gentle and creative place, with close access to the Clare Valley and Yorke Peninsula.

I am renovating the old general store in Koolunga, and there are many different and small jobs required to do here. Some of the work includes painting, landscape gardening, and building a tin shed in the back yard. The people of Koolunga are very friendly, and there are fun experiences outside my home, including milk the cow, visit an alpaca farm and play lawn bowls with the locals. The pub is across the road.
Often there are artists, film makers and writers who visit here. If your time coincides you will receive a fun and unique Aboriginal experience.
