Berry Lane Cottage is a six acre smallholding with delightful formal and informal gardens. We have over 200 camellias, azaleas and rhododendrons, ponds, woodland walks, forest gardens, newly planted orchards, vegetable gardens, greenhouses etc.
We keep goats, occasionally pigs and chickens and hatch & raise our own replacements.
Accommodation is in the house with own bedroom and bathroom.
In September 2019 pete had an operation that went wrong resulting in him being wheelchair bound, but he can still teach a lot of skills.
We will be needing help with, lots of general gardening, woodland work, including logging and firewood, occasional dog walking if you like dogs, mucking out of goats and working with goats who are milked twice a day. We will need help doing some fencing and general other tasks which will vary! We have 30 years plus smallholding experience and can teach you a lot.

"La Bella Figura” or “making the best of what you have” is a phrase that best defines our approach. We are custodians of a beautiful home and farm and take a sympathetic, sensitive, and slow approach to restoration and farming. We started the project 10 years ago by replanting old hedgerows and woods, restoring ancient orchards and constructing a lake for wildlife. At the same time we researched how to tackle the farmhouse and it’s outbuildings using original materials such as lime plasters, breathable paints and elm. Bit by bit all the pieces came together, the foundations for the farm, a self sufficient small holding stocked with rare breeds more suitable to extensive rather than intensive farming and growing fruit and vegetables. Each decision we make is linked in some way, for example, the planting of wild flowers, lime trees and replanting of the orchards were all done with our honey bees in mind.

We have found ourselves increasingly interested in this approach and enjoy the... more inside

Looking for help from 1st December 2019

We live by the sea in Devon, in the South West of England, half an hour from the wonderful Dartmoor National Park, 25 minutes from the beautiful city of Exeter. The nearest train station with trains to London every couple of hours is just a short walk away.

We live 5 minutes walk away from the beach and harbour.

We're actually in the process of moving just around the corner, so need help packing, cleaning, maybe some decorating.....

In exchange for about 4.5 hours work a day, 5-6 days a week, you will have accomodation, decent wifi and all meals, including a packed lunch if you are going out for the day. We eat a vegan diet (no meat, diary or eggs). It would be great if you are vegan too, but of course that's not a requirement! We'll give you plenty of tips to help you cook and enjoy vegan food ;)

The work hours you are required to do need to be flexible around the family - depending what needs doing that day - but ideally i... more inside

**WE ARE CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR A JOINER/CARPENTER, PLUMBER, ELECTRICIAN OR A COMBINATION OF THE ABOVE!

I am restoring and renovating a large Victorian house in Central London and am looking for help immediately. It is a family home (I am a single mum with an 11 year old son).

We live in Limehouse in East London, 2 minutes away from the station. Limehouse DLR is 2 stops (every 2 min) away from Bank (Central Line), Tower Hill (Circle and District Line) and Canary Wharf (Jubilee Line). It takes 20min to get to Oxford Circus on the tube. And obviously we are close to all the arty, young energy of East London.

On your own time, you can explore all the amazing things in London etc, but unfortunately, as I'm a busy working mom, I won't be providing any tour guidance. We like happy, fun people, and the odd glass of wine, but no partying in the house as this is a family home. No smokers please.

We are looking for energetic, hard working, organised and upbeat people to he... more inside

Nick and I live at Foss, near Loch Tummel a stunning area with unspoiled green countryside and hills. We are near Pitlochry and Aberfeldy, popular tourist destinations in the heart of Scotland.
This beautiful countryside of Perthshire has tremendous remote areas with interesting wildlife, birds, mushrooms and plants. We have mountains, forests and rivers for walks, whitewater rafting nearby.
Nick could take helpers out sailing when time and weather allows. You can also use our 2 man canoe.
We need help with a variety of jobs, in our new house (painting and a bit of carpentry ), around the garden, new paths and beds, wood chopping and splitting, with general help around the farm (sheep and cattle). We would prefer if helpers could stay at least for a week.

Down the hill only 3 miles away, there is a shop, a pub, swimming pool and a fish and chip shop. We have bicycles and can drive you to Pitlochry or the village of Tummel Bridge for a bus.

Accommodation is a shepherds hut... more inside

We live in a beautiful village called Plockton in the Scottish Highlands.

We're open to the public and have a 2.5km walk that needs maintaining and developing. The property has gardens both flower and veg in development. We run events from time to time and will soon have a tea hut up and running. There are lots of different projects running here all the time, we eat well and work hard.

Needing volunteers, preferably a couple or 2 friends but single also okay, to come and trade their time helping us work the land prepping the gardens and be a part of the household. The work includes clearing and grass cutting, planting and building new features around the property as well as cutting wood ready for winter and building cold frame glasshouses.

We have a good sailing community in the village and lots of hill walking to be done. We also are now creating branded products on site such as screen printing and creating anything we can with what ever we have. This is a creative garden... more inside

We also do weddings in the summer - check out our website so you can see our farm and the area. We are a you my ish couple with a 2 year old boy.

It is a lovely rural area, in a beautiful setting with lots of walking on the doorstep. The nearest market town is only 1 mile away, Kirkbymoorside, which has a farmers market every Wednesday. There is a bus stop 10 minutes walk away which you can get to places like Pickering, Helmsley, Whitby and York.

The jobs in the winter are mainly mucking out the horses, putting in the fields, changing rugs, cleaning tack and if you can ride well, exercising them too. In the summer it is more help with the weddings - cleaning the barns, preparing the cabin etc. You can also ride in your spare time.
