I live on a six acre smallholding with my 17 year old son. We have a small flock of rare breed Balwen sheep, two Sebastopol geese, five cats and a Jack Russell terrier. We are situated three miles from the nearest village shop, and eight miles from the nearest town. We are looking for helpers to get a kitchen garden up and running, including a polytunnel, greenhouses, fruit cages, raised beds, orchard, compost bins, rainwater collection, etc. We also need help with putting up a shed/barn for livestock, we have no experience of this so will be learning as we go! Our plans include a forest garden, grey water system, tree bog, coppiced willows, bee keeping, putting in a large pond, and various other permaculture type projects. I enjoy making chutneys, wine, jam, sloe gin, etc. I also do a bit of craft, mainly sewing, but my main passion is for plants. In the future I would love to set up a small business selling rare and unusual plants. My son is a musician, we both love listening to a ... more inside

A William IV period Manse (Vicarage) in the heart of Speyside renowned the world over for its beautiful countryside, whisky and local food. The village has all that is required including a doctors, shops, swimming pool and fishing on the Spey, and there is a bus connection via Elgin to the rest of Scotland.

The house and garden are being brought back from a lengthy period of very limited maintenance. Internal and external walls will be re-plastered using traditional methods. Dry stone retaining terrace walls need rebuilding and the two lime mortared walled garden walls need significant repointing.

The garden is being brought back into cultivation using conservative methods with a view to supplying the house: The orchard has already been replanted using traditional Scottish species and the kitchen garden is being re-instated this year. Fruit cages and poultry will follow in due course.

The stone outbuilding, which used to be used to shelter the poor of the parish, needs ... more inside

We are two young farmers who would like help from an energetic and practical person on our hill farm based near Oban on the beautiful west coast of Scotland.

The farm extends over roughly 1000Ha running sheep and cattle mainly in Argyll but also with grazing throughout Scotland so we are kept busy. We are in the process of expanding the farming operation and implementing agri-environment projects so would like some help from someone for a few months in Spring/Summer/Autumn. The work is varied and can be quite physical.

We can offer good food and accomodation, use of a vehicle (licence essential) and a friendly atmosphere. There is a decent local pub and we are close to Oban for services and sports facilities etc. Someone keen to get involved in the work and interested in seeing a bit of the west coast scenery and culture would be ideal.
