We have a beautiful old Irish period house in the heartland of county Kilkenny countryside. We have a woodland, a fruit orchard, a vegetable garden and out buildings. We also have some hens and a busy beehive. We try to be as self-sufficient as possible, growing a wide variety of vegetables, herbs and plants.

We are looking for someone to help this summer with gardening, painting, clearing hedges, wood-cutting and general outdoor work. Some of the work would be independent and some working closely with us. The work is always varied. We provide comfortable private accommodation in the house with a plentiful supply of organic healthy food and cooking. Kilkenny City is a 15 minute drive, and the house is just outside the village of Ballyragget.

Robert and Maura's home farm is a traditional run Irish farm, with a sucker herd of cattle with calving in the spring time. We are a complete grass farm of about 130 acres. We also breed and produce horses and like to compete in the local shows in the summer months.
We have lots of dogs around the farm with us and do a little dog training. There is a large garden & poly tunnel to grow our fruit and vegetables in order to try to be self-sufficient, organic and to have yummy home cooked meals.
We encourage nature/wildlife growth around our place. Duties: day to day running of our home farm and the jobs are varied and interesting from farm maintenance to caring for the animals, & tending to the garden and poly tunnel. Anyone who likes the outdoors and has a love for animals will have great and memorable experiences here. We have many different projects to work on e.g. a barn conversion. We welcome one or two people at a time to our home to share our way of life. We have lots of fun o... more inside

We are doing up the property and have a lot of work is done to date but we do need help.

There are two bedrooms and a nice big bathroom up stairs in the house. A kitchen, sitting room and living room downstairs. A nice enclosed garden. The house is approximately 1 mile from the village (15 minute walk) which has a shop, post office and 2 public houses.

The work that needs doing is painting both the inside and outside of the house. The kitchen needs everything taken out and the floor tiled.
We will be putting up an extension to the side of the kitchen to make a dining room.

The outside needs a lot of work to make it a nice garden.

In June and July will be time to turn the turf in the bog and when it is dry bag it for taking home.
Turf is the fuel that we burn in the fire. It is cut by a machine and then has to be turned by hand.

It would probably suit a couple or two friends as we wont be there all the time or someone who doesn't mind been on their own.

We are living of grid on a 10 acre piece of land, surrounded by the mountains of Cork and Kerry. There are different kinds of areas on different heights on the Tir na Beo. Woodland areas, bog land bits and various types of little fields and gardens. The Gougane Barra National Park and the Lee Valley with the beautiful chain of lakes forming Lough Allua are close by. This is a very rural area and the nearest village is about 5 km away. The distance to the west coast is about 25 km.

History, Philosophy, Life and Plans:
We are inspired by people who live and work on their own land self-sufficient as much as possible and in harmony with nature. Being more healthy and happy. Eating good organic food is also essential for us and our way of living. To us this kind of life is perfect to reveal our potentials.
We are preserving and restoring nature ongoing every year and we would like to share and enjoy this land and this beautiful area with other people in a community setting. While ma... more inside
