I live off-grid in a 240 sq ft handbuilt caravan. I am practicing sustainability thru permaculture. my farm garden is beyond organic, relying on natures synergy. It is my dream to be fully self sufficient in food and herbs. also in the dream-works are an outdoor summer kitchen, a solar oven, a solar water heater for the caravan, solar/wood heated outdoor shower and bathtub , a bicycle powered station for food grinding- and electricity production, more food forest which includes the polycultural food and medicinal garden, hoop house, composting toilet, coppiceable windbreaks, stone ridges for heat retention and dew harvesting, tool shed, earth plaster walls and more. You will sleep in a tent, or the living space of the caravan[ I sleep in the loft bed]- or vice versa. Bathing and toiletting are rustic/primitive. I have NO fridge or freezer. My diet is organic, omnivorous and sugar, milk and gluten free. I have chickens and ducks for eggs and meat. I will expect 12-15 hours work a wee... more inside

A few years ago we left our urban life and set forth on a journey across North America, volunteering on farms and learning about how to live differently on the earth.

Our journey brought us to Quadra Island where we recently purchased an old farm and are in the middle of converting it into a regenerative and thriving farmstead using permaculture, silvipasture, animal systems, compost, food forests...and lots of other awesome things! We think that animals are a very important part of creating a regenerative system. Currently we have chickens (layers and meat birds), geese, goats, 2 dogs and a cat. We are very concerned about climate change and this is what is driving our determination to figure out how to live in a resilient and regenerative way. We also highly value living in community and sharing what we know with others, as well as learning from others in turn.

Quadra Island is a wonderful place to live. It is a beautiful place with a close-knit community of community-m... more inside

We are a family run farm and bakery on beautiful Salt Spring Island. We have a store that is open every day on our farm, with many customers visiting it. All of our own products, (meat, baked goods, veggies, fruit, wool products etc), as well as products from other islanders are sold in our store. We also attend a farmers market once a week. Help needed with, but not limited to: picking, planting, weeding, market prep, market selling, cleaning, washing vegetables and so on. The farm has a really fun atmosphere with lots of fun young people working on it, who love to have a good time after the work day is done.
We are looking for Helpers now until the end of September. Preferably helpers would be staying longer than 2 weeks, so they can get the hang of things.

TreeEater Farm is a small mixed permaculturally-oriented homestead farm situated on 40 acres. Our current activities consist of managing a large and successful edibles nursery business, finishing construction of the main farmhouse, occasional farm-to-table catering, growing a large assortment of perennial and annual vegetables and storage crops, maintaining a mixed orchard (of over 160 varieties of fruits/nuts/berries) and its chicken and goose associates, on-site saw-milling and building farm infrastructure, tending our herd of Kunekune Pigs, plus food preserving, meat processing, and many other homestead skills and projects.

We are an artisan couple who are looking for help in our sewing studio and wood workshop as well as with various projects that come up (for example in the past we have had help repairing and replacing our decks, weeding and tidying the garden and property, replacing a ceiling, a small construction project, doing inventory, loading and unloading for market and more). You do not need any particular experience but you need to have an eye for detail and be willing to learn. We make wooden toys and household goods as well as hand sewn hats and hand woven scarves that we sell at market from April to October and at hand-made fairs in November and December. Our usual working hours are Monday to Friday, 9am to 3pm with an hour for lunch.

We are a vegetarian household and all meals and snacks are included. You prepare your own breakfast and lunch and we usually eat dinner together. We expect you to clean up after yourself and keep your sleeping area tidy and help out with housecleaning on... more inside

join me here, surrounded by 400 acres of old growth forested park land (the bottom end of denman). Miles of remote beaches, where you will see whales, sea lions eagles and all the clams and oysters you can eat.
This house was built in Victoria in 1950 and moved to its present location in 1992 by myself and some fine friends. It is the primary residence on the property but still needs the love and attention of skilled and semi skilled artisans in the fields of carpentry, finishing, and hundreds(thousands?) of small details... We have recently added one llama, two sheep, three pigs and ten muscovy ducks to the family, we are now constructing fences and a barn for future livestock. Now have a sweet little caravan for exploring Vancouver island.Lots of bicycles, and great trails! Hoping to find travelers who would be interested in helping to renovate, and make comfortable a 1947 aluminum bus and a 1964 barth aluminum trailer for more private accommodation.

Our family owns and operates a small high-density certified organic apple orchard, focusing on heritage and connoisseur apple varieties. We also run a small cidery on the property, bake and sell apple treats at market, host orchard tours and provide on-site apple and tree sales in season.

To date, farm volunteers (WWOOFers) have been a big part of our orchard development, as we need help with many orchard tasks on a year-round basis.

Brian and Peri both also do other work to make the whole effort feasible. Peri is a teacher; Brian is a writer and consultant.

All volunteers sleep in our spacious (20 by 16 foot) wall tent, which sits on a wood floor and is set up much like an apartment, with beds and furniture, plus a cozy wood stove. There is an outhouse right beside the tent and volunteers have use of dedicated bathroom and shower facilities nearby. Full access to kitchen facilities in our house, is just a short walk away.

Our dynamic household -- and our popularity w... more inside
