Currently seeking volunteers from the end of September to the end of October for 2019 and for the 2020 season starting the end of April to end of October 2020.

Husband and wife team looking to exchange room and board for help with painting and improving the tiny guest cottage, fencing, foot bridges, gardening, odd carpentry, saw milling, mowing, and shared cooking. Equipment now ready to begin making stabilized compressed earth blocks (CEB) for small outbuildings, first, then next summer begin building a CEB home/workshop. We are on 88 acres of rough terrain, mostly woods with creeks, springs and rock ledges. *Rugged living conditions* (off grid, outdoor showers etc.). This is a remote location: five miles to the post office, another five miles to the nearest gas station, and another ten miles to stores in Lewisburg WV. Nearest cell phone signal is three miles down the road. Satellite Internet available for email and Skype telephone calls. We have a small fruit and nut orchard, large garden, beginning some trout farming. Must love and respect dogs, cats and wildlife. We participate in local community events and help neighbors as needed.

300 year old mill on a pond with a waterfall in need of tender loving care.

I’m originally from NY, but I have lived in San Miguel de Allende, in Mexico, for the past thirty years, as a mother, a contractor and a store owner.
I love the work exchange experience, and I have been both worker and hostess for the last here on Helpx.. I love the exchange of culture and community that the work exchange life gives us, both as helpers and hosts, I've been working on an urban sustainable project for the last several years in San Miguel de Allende and I've had many wonderful helpers over the years.
I just inherited my parents house and art studio, it's on it's own pond with a waterfall, but it's in major need of love and attention, so I'm planning on starting the first phase this Aug, Sept and Oct 2019 and then returning to work on the exterior in the spring April, May and June 2020. My passion is sustainable design and living.

This is an organic farm, community and education center that is off the grid and uses no fossil fuels. We grow most of our own food, and also grow organic vegetable seeds which we sell to a local seed company, Southern Exposure Seed Exchange.

Our community and farm are powered by the sun and farm-grown biofuels. We have developed a unique DC micro-grid that we actively promote to other groups and communities as an economical alternative to grid power and fossil fuel. We are continuing to improve our systems for fossil-fuel-free farm traction and cooking.

We host interns and work exchangers year-round. Work is usually agricultural from May to October, and technological projects the rest of the year. Kids are welcome. Interns and volunteers donate 30 hours of work per week in exchange for room, board and educational opportunities.

We are part of a network of egalitarian and income-sharing communities in Louisa County that includes Twin Oaks and Acorn Communities.

We have an organic farm. We have a wide variety of animals. At the moment we have goats, cattle, a donkey, and chickens. We have 3 gardens, fruit trees, herb plots, and are expanding. We have approximately 70 acres/29 hectares that we are working on getting cleared, fenced, and workable. We milk the goats and play with the babies that aren't sold. We are close to North Bend State Park and the Rail Trail. Excellent for hiking, biking, camping, etc. The Hughes River is a mile away. It is not deep in some parts but it flows into a lake for fishing. During the spring, we can show how to pick and choose the right heirloom seeds, how to raise all sorts of babies, and start your own seedlings. During the summer, we pick our own legal herbs and I make my own herbals that I can show how to make those as well. During the fall, I can show people how to can, dry and store the food we raised on the farm including our own seeds. During early winter we are butchering and figuring out what we want... more inside

A little about us... we are a young couple (late 20s) with four children under the age of seven. We have two inside dogs and a cat as well as a LGD (livestock guardian dog) in the field. We love to learn about other cultures and are very accepting of all people in all situations. We are a developing farm that focuses on sustainability and integrity farming. We like creative solutions and believe that out-of-the-box thinking is a good thing. While we aren't considered "organic" we do use holistic medicines, use non-chemical home products and focus on healthier animals.

What do we do? Currently, we are developing a new properties (so putting in fencing and spring development & converting a building into a deer processing facility), raising goats and rabbits as well as building a market garden. We process rabbits and poultry on our farm and help other farmers under state exemption. We are attempting to hone in our gardening skills. We tan and taw hides from our animals. We make our ... more inside

We are a people-loving family of 6 living in a old house that has been in the family/business for over 100 years. The house is in the middle of a Fruit Farm, a large orchard managed by Clair. We have a small farm with chickens and pigs and cats and one dog.

Anna cares for and teaches our four children (5,7,11, and 14) She enjoys providing the children with meaningful and stimulating learning experiences, always stopping her work to read them one more book. She has also taken our family on a real-food, slow-food journey -- making nearly all of our meals from "scratch" from mostly locally sourced ingredients. Along the way, she has learned how to make kombucha, kefir, sourdough bread, lacto-fermented veggies, homemade medicines, and a variety of homemade and/or traditional foods. She thrives on neighborhood interactions and getting to know people of all kinds.

When Clair is not working at the fruit farm, he spends his spare time creating things, homesteading, gardening,... more inside
