Have you some experience of erecting deer-fencing?! We need help to create a deer-proof area for growing trees. In autumn/winter. You get exclusive use of our beautiful little off-grid camping hut during your stay!

Seven years ago we took a chance on a bare piece of land. Empty but for bog, rock, bracken, grassland, heather, wild flowers and trees. Long winters in a caravan while we watched our children outgrow the space and erected a polytunnel and chicken huts, created a vegetable garden, built a camping hut and a family home.

We are looking for help with our next steps as we make the land more productive. Long-term, our plan is to develop a forest garden with layers of plants producing nuts, fruit, vegetables and timber, while our pigs and chickens roam and feed beneath. A step away from traditional crofting, we want to create an ecosystem that can provide for us, while being self-sustaining and giving back to our Earth.

In the short term our steps are very practical, e... more inside

Help a 64 year old retired couple run an Internationally renown Ornamental Waterfowl Conservation Breeding Farm near Castle Douglas in South West Scotland.
The 600 plus breeding birds forming the collection come from all over the world and ducklings start hatching in March and continue to do so through to October for some of the Southern Hemisphere species. This is when and why we are looking for help.
The work is very rewarding although some of the enclosure maintenance etc can be physically demanding and so requires gloves and resolve! We are unable to cater for any special dietary requirements, such as Vegan, Vegetarian, Piscatarian or the likes so expect 'would be' helpers to join and eat with us at meal times as part of the experience.
We would prefer potential volunteers to want to be with us for around 2 weeks minimum.

We are located in the Highlands on the coast road of the Applecross Peninsula near the small crofting township of Kenmore, in a peaceful, rural location.

Help please from April - October. See below the list of help we ask from our guests.

We run a seasonal, small Artisan smoking business, set within the grounds and to the rear of our house. Also in the grounds we have a small self catering cottage which is let on a weekly basis, mainly from March to October.

The help we request varies daily, cleaning and maintenance in the Smokehouse premises once a week, and within the house weekly, help with maintenance of outbuildings and garden work, this might be one or two days a week, the garden is laid mostly to shrubs and grass. We both help with the tasks when not too busy with the preparation and sales of the smoked products.

Help please to clean and prepare the holiday cottage for a few hours on a Saturday morning. Also some help with general housework in the home duri... more inside

This is a small farm on the sea loch of Loch Broom, next to the fishing village of Ullapool which is 6 miles further along the coast.

We have cattle (including highland cattle) plus there are areas of wildlife management. On the farm there are two rivers which flow into the broom estuary, which support salmon, sea trout, otters and sea birds.

The farmhouse is located at the head of Loch Broom. We are in the process of developing the farm towards organic certification and doing work to live up to Scottish Agricultural Department biodiversity requirements.

The farm is organised by Jane and worked by Tam,Johnny and helpers.

We garden vegetables in a large poly tunnel and aim to eat and provide organic and sustainable food from the farm and local area.

Typical work hours are about four or five hours a day.
Typical jobs are clearing brush and coppicing for land management, cow husbandry, renovations of a cottage, painting, cutting rushes, timber harvesting and fen... more inside
