Summer time in Melbourne :) A lot is happening on the farm!

I am a young farmer called Paul in my 30s that is currently operating a market garden on 16 acres in the Keilor valley, just 22km from the Melbourne CBD! I grow seasonal vegetables organically, and I supply them to various restaurants and retailers in Melbourne, as well as holding stalls at farmers' markets on the weekend. I've been farming here for almost 3 years now, and am implementing and experimenting with various methods of farming.

The beautiful Maribyrnong River runs along the border of the property, and there are many cockatoos here too! There are a few farmhands that work on various days throughout the week, so there is always someone to learn from and have a cuppa with. We rise early in the morning and eat a hearty farm lunch together. As you can imagine, there is a plethora of beautiful organically grown vegetables to eat for our meals! People have enjoyed cooking with really fresh produce and notice real ... more inside

I'm searching for help with some painting and prep work and some general garden maintenance - there's a paling fence around the deck, a few window frames and some of the external weatherboards need a bit of TLC (nothing too awful but a little bit of ladder climbing involved)... I know it's not rocket science but experience and attention to detail is a must ... come and enjoy the experience of the goldfields of Victoria and only just over 1 hour to Melbourne... I am offering board, a light breakfast and an evening meal in exchange for 15 hours per person per week, leaving plenty of free time to explore this beautiful part of the world... happy, friendly, travelling dog lovers essential and prefer clean living fun loving vegetarians... meat eaters may apply but at this point I don't have a bbq and I prefer not to cook meat inside the house

Our property is mostly native Australian vegetation that is still recovering from a major bushfire in recent years.
We are committed to environmentally friendly, chemical free practice, conservation and biodiversity principals and we are involved with the local land care group.
There is always plenty to do with maintaining the surrounding bushland vegetation that forms a part of a broader wildlife corridor for Kangaroos, Wombats, Echidnas, Owls and many other native birds.
Handy persons with a variety of skills or a willingness to learn are most welcome. Help with GRASS CUTTING, collection of FIRE WOOD, GENERAL HOUSE, PROPERTY and GARDEN MAINTENANCE is always appreciated.
Working times are flexible, 2 - 4 hrs a day depending on what we need help with at the time in exchange for accommodation and mostly vegetarian meals, (can accommodate special dietary requirements if necessary) .
Our power is supplied by a 5kw grid connected solar power system.
We rely solely on a rain wa... more inside

This farm is set next to the Alpine National Park with distinctive 4 seasons. Milking goats, vegetables and fruit production is the main focus with the final value adding in our Micro Bakery which produces Sourdough bread and pastries. Flour is milled on site in a stone mill. Products are mainly sold at Farmers Markets on Saturdays.
People with real desire to learn about all farming aspects are welcome and will be rewarded with a great learning experience.
No mobile phone reception (only on top of our mountain), internet limited to some e-mail due to costs and time factor. No earphones during working (health and safety issues) hours. Accommodation in comfortable hut which sleeps up to 12 people. Austrian German spoken Family.
Need help harvesting/planting/mulching at the moment and wood chopping/gathering.

We have a small 20 acre hobby farm approx 40km from Melbourne on the edge of the Yarra Valley. We have a large veggie patch and fruit trees and pasture which we try to run organically/sustainably.
We need help with firewood collection, weeding, grass cutting and general building maintenance.
There are many wineries in the area, bush/forest walks and cycling is very popular. There is a famous weekly market in the area and local general store and pub/hotel. Public transport will get you within 6 km of us and there is a weekend community bus, or we can pick you up.
Accomodation is queen sized bedroom in the main house.
We have airbnb people sometimes so bathroom facilities may need to be shared.
Help needed in return for meals and accommodation dependent on capabilities and etc. Eg 4 hours/day....

We are a family of four (two children aged 2 and 6). We've been living here for over 10 years in an off-grid co-operative community of around 70 people. Glen runs a renewable energy training facility and Sarah works part-time in Melbourne CBD.

We are looking for someone to help run our home. Experience with looking after kids would be ideal.

Please note that in winter the weather is very cold outside (mountain top), our home has hydronic central heating and guest accommodation has a wood fire.

We can offer a separate self contained secluded dwelling for our HelpX’ers to stay in. As well as meals and board there’s free internet and you’re welcome to borrow our bikes (mountain bike and a hybrid). Situated on top of a beautiful forested mountain overlooking the Yarra Valley we are both remote yet accessible to Melbourne. Sarah travels to the city 3-4 times a week and can transport HelpX'ers as required to the train station or the local town Healesville.

The community is to... more inside
