This is a 48 acre family farm in San Isidro del General, Costa Rica. The owners, Mario and Rosie are from the USA. Mario is a retired teacher and Rosie is a retired microbiologist and long term organic gardener. Our long term goal is to create a sustainable farm using organic principles. Volunteer opportunities are available now through April 15th, 2019. After April 30th, volunteers who have worked on Earth Rose Farm for at least 3 weeks may qualify to work with the caretakers to care for the gardens and greenhouses. This is a family owned and run farm that has been producing organic cocoa for over 25 years. Nestled in the secluded village of Mastatal, Costa Rica, this place sits at about 1000 meters above sea level in the lush and rugged tropical environment that is ideal for cocoa cultivation.

The work of the farm fluctuates with the weather - the main cocoa harvest taking place during the rainy season (roughly May through November) and the expansion of terrace gardens, bean harvesting, and various other work taking place during the hot, dry summer season (December through April). Until recent years, the family had sold its fermented, dried cocoa beans to chocolate manufacturers. However, after the harvest of 2006, they decided to keep a few sacks of beans and experiment with the manufacturing of cocoa powder and chocolate. The result has been delicious, and gets better every day! With the help of volunteers and visiting students, this small farm has increased its cocoa production an... more inside

Our finca is a small tight knit regenerative, educational, experimental, permaculture, intentional community in Costa Rica on 4.2 hectares of beach front close to the OSA peninsula`s point of Cabo Matapalo. Morphing ourselves and others to be more sustainable, creative, free, happy, at peace, and open-minded to all ideas and new ways of life. Being surrounded by an indescribable primal energy from the rainforest and the ocean has inspired us to "Be the change we wish to see in the world" - Mahatma Gandhi. Using biodynamic regenerative agriculture to create a system that will continue to make top soil for years to come by sequestering carbon. We promote integrating a zero waste policy and are using all forms of human disposal and waste to enrich and change the environment around us. As a permaculture farm we are striving towards a sustainable and self-sufficient model, for keen individuals to learn from and to inspire people visiting the OSA on how they can incorporate some of these ... more inside

The farm is a medium size fruit/herb farm. The natural environment includes 2 creeks, 9 hectares of forest and many different animal species. The house and cabins were all artfully built by hand using wood from the farm or immediate surroundings. The farm is not in a touristy area, but it is easy to get to from the main Caribbean highway. There are river swimming and hiking within walking distance.By bus, whitewater rafting on the Pacuare is easy to do in a day, canoeing is also available on the Tortuguero canals. Cahuita National Park and Puerto Viejo are better done on an overnight trip.

All the tropical fruits, spices and some vegetables are available for your use. I like to start volunteers off with a tour of the farm which includes the small coffee-growing area, the turmeric, ginger, bananas, pineapples, cacao, etc. If there is any fruit or food to be harvested I let the volunteers harvest with my guidance, especially when there is a machete involved. Every harvest is depe... more inside

Hola!
We - two families from Germany - run this beautiful hostel with around 60 beds. It's surrounded by tropical nature, located right by a waterfall in Uvita de Osa, Costa Rica.
We love the idea of family style hostels where you can find a home away from home.
Our building is like a giant treehouse - with plenty of space to chill, relax, meet people from all over the world, with terrace decks for watching wildlife in our jungle garden.

Our volunteer program:
We need help with child care (our daughter Luzie is born in March 2012), keeping the kitchen tidy, at our reception.
For 4 hrs work per day, 5 days per week you'll get a bed in our 2 bed volunteer room in our basic guest house.
You can use all hostel's facilities like kitchen, internet, terraces and basics like coffee are provided.
And we pay a small salary for working days after 4 weeks :-)

Please keep in mind:
- We require a minimum stay of 6 weeks (4 in exceptional cases)!

- We hope you like the outdoors ... more inside

We have a small bed and breakfast on one of the most beautiful beaches on the Osa Peninsula. It is one of the regions in the world where biodiversity is the largest ... (We also manage two lodges in the jungle and on the beach).
We have an adorable house that offers a fabulous panoramic view of the jungle, the Golfo Dulce and the Pacific. The house is surrounded by jungle, mangrove and beach. The nearest neighbor is 1,5km away. We are 15/20 minutes drive from Puerto Jimenez which offers the life of a typical village with many shops, bars and restaurants ... but also bank, hospital, airport ...
