UPDATE MAY 2017: We now have capacity to potentially host one volunteer for the next couple of months, until July.

Bedford Fields Community Forest Garden is an open access garden in Woodhouse, Leeds, LS6, that aims to educate people on how forest gardening can be a viable alternative to food production, resilient to climactic and social change. We aim to educate volunteers and the local community about forest gardening and wider environmental issues through workdays, workshops and discussion. We believe in the ‘urbalisation’ of our cities – ‘bringing rural life to the city’. Our website is here:

About a third of acre of land in total, we have over 200 species of plants and over 100 edible species and a mixed species hedge planted and fenced off as a wildlife corridor leading to Woodhouse ridge. Last year we welcomed around 100 new volunteers and would like to welcome even more this year. We run workdays, one where we do therapeutic-style gardening, another where we get lots ... more inside

This is a seriously unique, even more seriously RUSTIC and wonderful, 16th century WATER MILL RESTORATION PROJECT, set in the stunning Cumbrian countryside. This exciting, BIG project is close to the Lake District, countless Roman ruins and ancient towns and charming villages, including the World Heritage site of Hadrian's Wall (Roman, AD122!).

Accommodation is in the half-finished, but cosy, mill house, or in a unique travelling wagon, or in vintage railway carriages, next to a lovely mill race (water stream). All of these accommodation options are RUSTIC, so you will need to be tough, hardy, open-minded and adventurous in your spirit!

There is only a long-drop, outside toilet, so be happy with that. There is an indoor hot bath.

I'm not house-proud. This is a working building site, not a show home! I don't sit glued to the tv all night. I like to eat, talk, laugh, and share travelling storeys.

I'm a collector of stuff! I collect wonderful and weird machiner... more inside

Our smallholding (the dream home we sought for 10 years!)has awesome views and is situated in the beautiful Eden Valley near the Lake District National Park. We also run our family business from here (a non harmful anti-grazing product for gardens and growers)and things can get quite busy...We have sheep (only 25 now - a mix of Herdwicks, Shetlands and mules), chickens, horses, dogs and cats - and 2 children aged 11 and 18! There is a valley and flat grazing at the top (that we use for hay) and ancient woodland (4 hectares) ) that we manage and get wood from.
We need help with the animals and general maintenance work and there is also some building /renovation going on.
We are a friendly family, used to and welcoming of different people here. There is a caravan with woodburning stove (and other spaces)available for use. We have a great 'play' barn where we have table tennis and do yoga etc!
We are looking for someone to help out in the months of July and August. Must be able to ... more inside

I have a very large garden and just need a bit of help keeping it in shape from time to time.
Probably a week is all that's needed at one time, however I am open to flexibility on this.
A large lawn, many hedges, some weeding, cutting back and tidying up.
The House is in South London and is extremely quiet and beautiful. Close to Dulwich Village, but also very easy and quick access to London life...eg 7 mins on overground to Victoria, 15 mins to London Bridge.
We are vegetarian. And, to be clear, we don't welcome any meat to be eaten on the premises.
Looking forward to meeting a friendly face.

A herb farm and orchard. We are looking for either one or two people to live on our farm and help us with gardening duties to help set up our new herb farm, prune our apple trees and help with the apple harvest and light domestic duties. This is an agricultural area so it should be possible to find paying jobs nearby.

Comfortable accommodation will be provided in return for 20 hours work per week. Weekends will be free except at busy times by prior agreement. Evening meal will be provided.

We need help from the middle of April 2017 onward and for the rest of the year and are looking for like minded people to help on the farm, with the yurts, the family, the logs, the kitchen garden and the wholesome cooking. We welcome couples as well as single travellers.

We moved here to pursue dreams of holistic sustainable living, escaping the rat race, and living a life more connected to each other, family, the local community, and nature.

This dream has very much been realised and we work together on Sunny Brow projects, eating wholesome cuisine and enjoying being in close proximity to nature with our 3 children. Come and join us to experience and share what we feel so lucky to have.

Our projects include renovating the farm buildings into apartments, managing the woodlands and log-fueled boiler, renting yurts to holiday makers and newly launched is the holistic retreat, offering alternative therapies and activities to our guests.

Our family consists of 2 lively b... more inside
