Hello Helpxers,

We are a nice family who live in the countryside, in the center of Portugal.
We are looking for someone who can do some reconstruction work, with stones (that would be perfect, as it is an ancient windmill), enjoys working outside, as we can do jobs like cleaning the woods, chop some trees to get some fire wood, work the land on the backyard, etc.
We also want to improve our skills in what refers to speak English, so it would be nice if the volunteer feels comfortable to teach us and has patience to do so.
We have two "teenager" lambs, some chickens, 3 cats and a beautiful dog called Chocolate.
We will provide you a bedroom, food and everything you might need. We don't really expect you to work a certain number of hours per week. It doesn't matter how long it takes, we just want to stuff done nicely. Moreover, as it can be scorching hot in summer, in here, we prefer to wake up early in the morning and work a couple of hours or so, and do the same later in ... more inside

We are a retired English family with a 15 year old son. Our farm is a hobby farm and most things we do are for our health and for fun. On the farm we have - a donkey, pigeons, rabbits, bees, sometimes quail, guinea fowl and chickens. We are also trying to set up an Aquaponics system and have some solar power. We are striving to set up a permaculture garden. We have learned a lot about making the best of the very hot summers and the very wet winters and how this relates to growing plants and trees.
Your accommodation and some of your meals will be in a small caravan although we cook and eat outside quite a lot. We need help clearing bramble and extending our new food forest. 50 olive trees need pruning. Building work is also required to bring into use three cottages I have in the area. One day I will want help restoring the NORA - this is the donkey powered irrigation system.
Skills you might acquire - tractor driving, basic bee keeping, composting. You will learn how to manage... more inside

Fox Valley is a secluded off grid, permaculture project in the middle of the forest. Although it is close to a cafe and a lovely small village.

This is an alcohol and drug free space.

Most of the heavy work is done here and I am enjoying the more creative part of the process in the house and garden. I will be building a timber frame compost toilet soon and doing some landscaping at the back of the house.

An extra pair of hands would be great to keep things moving along. So help with any aspect of living here is welcome.

You would be happy here if you like peace and quiet and living close to nature. Also you must like cats and dogs.

If things are working out well then longer stays are available

Accommodation is basic at the moment but it is clean and comfortable, you can camp here or park a truck. There is a good shower and a compost toilet.

We live in the beautiful unspoilt countryside of the Algarve, close to a lake, a 15 min drive to the historic town of Silves and only a 30 min drive to many beautiful beaches. We have a wooden house (which you will stay in) that we want to get ready to rent out this summer. We need help mainly with exterior and interior painting however there are many other small jobs on our 'to do' list, including gardening! We would like approx 5 hours work a day (5 days a week) in return for food and accommodation

The wooden house where you will stay has one bedroom, a shower room and an open plan kitchen/living area. You can chose to cook your own meals or eat with our family. We have children and various pets including a dog and a cat. There is a good sized swimming pool next to the wooden house.

There is one restaurant within a 20 min walk (if you don't mind hills!) and a few local cafes in walking distance. There are buses to Silves but it is a few miles walk to the nearest stop ... more inside

This is a starting project consisting on a nature tourism resort and encompassing education, permaculture, ecological buildings, natural healing and well-being as the main pillars.

We have 3 hectars of land within the natural reserve park of Sao Mamede, in high Alentejo. The property is 700 meter high, half of it being a forest area and the rest being a south-facing fertile valley, with underground water canals 300 years old, where permaculture is planned.

CURRENT STATUS:
Finishing clearing the valley and ordering the material for building some yurt tents and basic self-sufficient energy and water infrastructure.

The good weather has finally arrived, the land is a true paradise now and we're accepting HelpXers to help with building the yurts, clearing the land and starting the initial permaculture work and basic infrastructures! :)

There are buses to local towns, Lisbon and the Algarve. We have bikes to use and internet(bring your own lap-top). We need help with the garden- general clearing and help with driftwood fence, and fixing up small cabin for craft work-shops. Accomodation in cabin or bring tent, and we make fabulous food every day. ( we can do vegetarian if necessary)and plenty of good wine too.We have no mains water so showering is outside with water from Fonte Santa, a local spring. My Time in Agolada by Christine Crammer, march 2012

I have now been in Agolada for a week and a half, and I have to say I totally love being here. Agolada is an old farm belonging to Antonio's family (the land is now divided between his siblings, but it used to be a 600 acre farm which occupied the northern part of the town Coruche and employed many residents there). The land is currently not being farmed for anything, but they used to grow beets and rice, and I'm sure many other crops as well. Agolada consists of four long, one-story buildings which used to house the workers and families of workers on the farm and the main house, which is a gorgeous 3-story mansion, is set behind them. The buildings are all white, with a thick yellow border, green shutters and doors, and red clay-tiled roofs. In addition to these buildings is a small chappel set off to the side, where people can get married. It is really quite striking, and a lovely place to visit. Branca and Antonio have fixed ... more inside

A beautiful quiet place in the South-West of Portugal, the Alentejo. The association is dedicated to nature conscience and personal growth.
On the estate (8.5 hectares / 21 acres) people can experience with us another, more natural, way of living.
On the 8,5 hobbit's land you are in between all kinds of trees; old cork and stone oaks, olive trees and a variety of additional fruit and special trees, bushes and flowers.
We would like to have some enthusiastic help of people in the vegetable garden, maintaining the land and buildings, creating paths and spots for people and animals, finding creative solutions and share good times together.
