Update 24 March 2020:

Unfortunately, due to the isolation rules during the Covid-19 situation, we are unable to host anyone at this time. It breaks my heart, as we would love nothing more than to take you all in.

Please be safe.

We try to schedule in advance, so please feel free to message about future availability :)

We have a lot of weeding/landscaping and preparations to get done, so looking forward to some company and help! Our gardens are pumping, but need some projects done! Lots of outdoor jobs!

We live in a beautiful, subtropical part of the north of New Zealand on a semi-rural half acre section.
We offer private bedrooms with queen beds, with a shared bathroom.
We have all the home comforts - heat pump in winter and air conditioner in the summer.
The swimming pool is not heated!
We have good views over part of Whangarei and out to the harbour.
You will need a vehicle as we are just out of town - 4 mins to nearest shops by car, but a bit of a hike if walking!
Whangarei, and its surrounds, offers many things to see and do - our beaches are fabulous (we have a little house at one of them which you will need to stay at to see the beautiful Tutukaka Coast); there are lots of walking tracks and other things to do like diving, kayaking, etc, places like the Town Basin Marina; plenty of shops, restaurants and cafes.
Any help you would be able to give us with weeding and general gardening would be great! We could also do with a hand stripping wallpaper and painting - we are... more inside

LIFE'S BEST OUT WEST!
Hello

My 2 acre lifestyle property is situated 3ks from Baylys Beach, west across the Kaipara region, or west of Whangarei in Northland. It is also accessible from the North following the West Coast through Rawene and Hokianga.

The nearest town is Dargaville (10 mins). It is a bustling rural town with many shops, cafes, cinema, museum, restaurants, library, galleries, river walks, gardens etc

There is no public transport from Dargaville to Baylys Beach so it's best to have a vehicle so you can explore the area or hitch hike. There is much to see and do.

There is a bus called the West Coaster that leaves from The Hub in Whangarei to Dargaville Monday through Friday. 10.20am (arrives 11.20) Second bus leaves 4.20pm (arrives 5.20). Returning to Whangarei from Dargaville 7.30am or 12.30pm. I am happy to pick helpers up from Dargaville.

I'm developing a wetlands native tree planting project and several other gardens, attacking blackberry plants, s... more inside

I have recently purchased a beautiful old Bedford bus & a 1960 wooden hull boat with the intention of saving and restoring them.

I need help with stripping the interior of the bus, renovating the interior incl installing plywood ceilings, painting, cabinetry, wiring. No specific experience is required.
The exterior needs rust & dent removal work. This will include grinding, filling, sanding & painting.

The boat needs sanding, some plywood repairs and fiber-glassing. I will be working on both projects over the next few months but have not done it before so it's a big learning curve!

I live in a semi rural village 15mins from Whangarei with my cat, dog & chickens. I rent 2 rooms in my house on AirBnB for the last 2 years, check out "Clean & Cosy" in Hikurangi to read my reviews. Your accommodation will be one of the 2 rooms with a double bed, shared toilet, bathroom etc. I love meeting people from all over the world and sharing my knowledge of this beautiful part of the... more inside

We are a busy family of 5 with an additional 2 people also living in a self contained flat - Nana and Poppa.
3 children aged between 7 - 13 a small dog and a boat.

We are hoping that in exchange for a place to stay and sharing dinner with us that you will help out with gardening work around the property. Stays can be from 1-2 nights up to a few weeks depending on visitors requests. Gardening work would involve pruning flax and weeding gardens, trimming small trees and hedges. This isn't difficult work and most capable people could perform these tasks.

We love going to the beach and doing all the fun beach things like diving swimming and fishing in summer months weather permitting.

We are a family of four (including two boys aged 8 & 10), living on our family farm, situated on the south side of the Whangarei Harbour. The farm has been in the family for almost 150 years. We currently farm sheep and cattle, along with a few hens, pigs and ducks!

We are not organic but are practising biological / regenerative farming methods. We have plans to diversify...replanting an old orchard with citrus and subtropical fruit, improving our olive grove and planting more NZ natives. We have completed some farm-stay accommodation and are continuing with our traditional farm activities, including seasonal jobs such as shearing sheep and haymaking. We are also researching adding value to our coarse wool, experimenting with rugs and other products.

Work depends on time of year, but includes gardening and weeding, general farm work, sometimes building maintenance eg painting, tree planting and possibly general house work such as window cleaning. We would expect 4-5 hour... more inside

Hi and welcome to our eco project. We have moved with our 4 horses on to our land at Waipu Caves and intend to establish a retreat centre over time - a supportive refuge for self discovery and healing through a deep connection with nature.

Set amongst the majestic limestone formations and sacred underground passageways of Waipu Caves, the property rests on 14 hectares of native bush and pasture. The huge limestone cave system covers some four square kilometres and is home to millions of glow worms adorning the cavernous ceilings and freshwater koura in the chilly pools below.

Our project is just beginning.

So far we have set up a base camp based around our caravan. Weve solar power, a basic water system and the gardens are under way. Our next job is to build a small cottage from recycled materials.

There are a multitude of different task we need help with and your help would be greatly appreciated.

You will enjoy the Northland summer staying in a large, well appoi... more inside
