Come and stay on a Merino sheep & beef cattle farm in the Awatere Valley, Marlborough. There is often a variety of enjoyable work to help with on our property. Work hours can be flexible, approx 4 hours a day for accommodation and main meals. Jobs include Farm work, horses, gardening, painting, looking after children & some house work. The accommodation is a self contained cottage shared with our young farm worker. We are a farming family with 3 young boys who enjoy getting to know people from around the world. Our farm is in the country 40 min drive from Blenheim. It is nice and quiet with no cell phone coverage and limited wifi internet. We are good host's who will appreciate your help and you will enjoy a true NZ farming experience.

Must speak some English and enjoy kids.

We live on our boat near Havelock. I have three young children aged 8, 11, 14 whom I homeschool.
We hunt possums for fur. Our boat is small and basic so you will sleep in a tent and must be prepared to 'rough it' to a certain extent (shower consists of a bucket of warm water).
No experience with boats is necessary but you will need to have a 'can do' attitude.
Please bring some food to share. We have a two burner cooker on the boat but no oven.
We have fishing gear so you are welcome to try and catch dinner!
You must have your own sleeping bag and sleeping mat.
There is a good chance of seeing dolphins but it is not guaranteed.
Our activities depend on the weather.
We have a cat so not suitable for anyone with an allergy to cats.
We can pick you up in Te Mahia or Havelock.

We are located in Havelock Marlborough between Blenheim and Nelson in the South Island.
Our Backpackers is a historic building and was once a school attended by Sir Ernest Rutherford. Ernest is known as ‘the father of nuclear physics’ you may also recognize his face from the New Zealand $100-dollar bill!
The Rutherford boasts a spacious and a relaxed family environment, fully equipped kitchen and free WIFI. We have a cozy fire for the cold winter months and a garden and BBQ area for the hot summer months.

Havelock is considered the gateway to the beautiful Marlborough Sounds and with it offers so many beautiful and adventurous avenues to explore. Sea kayaking, scenic tours, walks & cruises, fishing, and water-taxies are just some of the activities available unique to Havelock. Havelock is ... more inside

The sunny house has a large garden, with one small dog and two cats, and a horse. It is about 8 km from Blenheim in a wine-growing area.

Helpers would sleep in one or two spare bedrooms, and share bathrooms and the kitchen. The host would like help with the fig orchard, house, garden. There is one bicycle a helper could use. I would provide good home cooking for four hours work per day.
The figs season is over, and the nets are off.
