We live on a well established rural property, nestled among native bush, an orchard and walnut trees. Quail feed on the lawn each morning and native wood pigeon & bell birds live in the trees. A stream runs through the center of our property, that is home to the long fin eel and trout during spawning season. Our home is surrounded by farm country where sheep and cattle, donkeys, pigs, ducks, geese and alpacas are common sightings within 1 km.We have 4 chicken and 2 cats.
We grow our own vegetables organically. I make my own bread and love learning from others different recipes.Kim roast his own coffee and makes a cup better than most cafe's.
.. volunteers work for 4 hours a day for food and accommodation.6 days a week .There is a variety of work including, picking peony flowers, weeding , making tracks through native bush, inside carpentry and sewing costumes for a drama production.
For references please check out our Air B&B listing "Paradise in Little River"

Interested in building with recycled materials and organic gardening? Handy? Strong? Nestled in sunny Diamond Harbour you 'll find the Gardeners Cottage. You are invited to assist with transforming this overgrown property into a semi rural haven with perma culture principles. Building with recycled materials, seeding, planting, weeding, pruning, landscaping and painting, its all in a days work. It's quiet and peaceful here. You need to be self-sufficient as there is not much entertainment apart from walking, tramping, reading, cafes, library with internet, ferry ride to Lyttleton etc.

Food is mostly vegetarian and we welcome people who eat vegan and/or gluten free but all tastes are catered for. You will help with food preparation and do clean up as part of living together.

Please indicate in your message that you are happy to work 5 hours per day, can be flexible i.e. have a day off and work more another day.We usually start with 2-3 days and then may extend if everybody is ... more inside

We have 4ha land, sheep, chickens, a dog, large gardens, two busy toddlers and a big, 150 year old homestead to look after, so many skills needed here.

We grow most of our own food and run a B&B, so needless to say life is very busy. For now we are looking for a couple (one queen bed), one to help with outside work and one to help getting the house ready before BnB starts again very soon. Outside work includes digging, firewood, farm maintenance, mowing, some gardening etc. House work will include a general spring clean, washing windows, doing laundry, some cooking if you can.

We provide 3 meals a day (non vegetarian) and accomodation in exchange for 5 hours work a day. Sometimes you can do a full day, and take the next day off if you would like to go and do something in Akaroa, or visit the beautiful bays around here.

Strictly no smokers please.

We are across the harbour from the lovely tourist hotspot Akaroa. (20 minute's drive). Many things to do there, like d... more inside

We are a little family of 3 looking for some help with our new home. We require help with painting and decorating. Some joinery i.e, building a chicken coop and general gardening around the new house.
In exchange for 4 hours a day or one day on one day off, we will show you the bright lights of the cool and hip Lyttelton.. Plus you get to live in our house before we even do...! We will also provide breakfast and an evening meal.

Why not visit the beautiful Banks Peninsula and stay in a lovely little port town with fab bars and beaches, whilst helping out our little family..

Family consists of, Bex - that's me! I have all the crazy ideas and drag my long suffering husband Rich along for the ride. We now have a new addition to the Jenkinson crew, she goes by the name of Rivah and is a little 2 year old whirlwind...

I am a retired chiropractor with a large house and garden 325 metres above the Southern Bays on Banks peninsula, near Christchurch. There is a separate sleep out and bathroom,so one has plenty of privacy and the work is simply helping to keep the house and grounds maintained. It is isolated and beautiful. One is expected to put in 4 hours work for room and board but am willing to negotiate the other 4 hours. Total flexibility
I have been told by helpers that my description was rather terse, so am now trying to be more expansive.I have lived and was educated in both Europe and the States, but am now a happy and proud Kiwi. If you have other questions,or are interested in staying while in the Christchurch area, please let me know, and we will work something out. Peace.
