lI am 88 yrs old still active enough to live in and maintain a restored water mill 8 km. from Castillon-la-Bataille; about a km down hill from the village of St Philippe d'Aiguilhe.
I was an art-history, archeology, and English teacher until my husband and I bought a small vineyard that we worked on with helpers, Woofers, etc., and always enjoyed them.
When my son and family took over the vineyard, we moved to the mill nearby with 5 hectares of woods and meadows.
Now, on my own, I need help in preparing the vege and flower gardens for winter in November and particularly January-March, bringing in wood for heating and keeping small trees, branches and brambles from invading the meadows. I often need general repairs around an old stone house. A driver's licence is essential so you can drive my car wherever needed.
You would have an independent "studio apt." with double bed, kitchen facilities and bathroom. I can provide meals if need be and for vegetarians though I'm not one. ... more inside

There wll be garden work, weeding flower and veg beds. At this season wood has to be carried into the house for the log burner.
Adaptability and common sense are invaluable working in our situation.
We usually speak English in the house so it could be useful for those who wish to improve their English as well as their French.
Some Helpx have completed or started studies while here. Some have painted or explored the walkways on foot or with the bikes.
There are always individual garden projects. Previous helpers tamed a bamboo jungle, cleared an overgrown bog and built pathways. Others learnt to bottle fruit and make jams, pickles and chutneys.
We always have work with the animals. Feeding, looking after and cleaning out the chickens, sheep and lambs.
Normally helpers are in the main house. Their room has its own bathroom and facilities for personal tea/coffee making.
The potager/veg garden, both of the 2 lakes are in a naturally beautiful setting, there is carp fishing... more inside

Hi Guys :)

After a lot of travels around the world, being an helper myself and managing an Organic farm in British Columbia (Canada), i finally settled myself in france, in a farm (Ashnola Organic Farm).
The farm is located at the foothills of the Pyrenees, in the beautiful valley of the Baretous. It is just 20 minutes away from Oloron Ste Marie, 45 from Pau, an hour from Spain and less than 2 hours from the Atlantic ocean.
I am always looking for new helpers who want to share my life style, their stories and listen to mine, are not afraid to put some dirt on their hands, help with animals (chickens, rabbits, horses, cats and dog) and want to eat organic fresh food. And we often give a hand to the neighbors.
According to the season we seed, plant, pick and pack and we go to the farmer market, and the basic chore of every farmer, some weeding :P
I like to work in the morning, 4 to 6 hours per day.
After that, the afternoon is for you, hiking, biking, visiting the area, goin... more inside

We're a few people living in the Pyrenees mountains (south of france near mediterannee sea), a place isolated from road and town.

Our main goal is to restore the potential of the old little village La Coume to allow people to live there.

We run different projects: organic gardening, raising animals (chickens, goats, donkeys, horses), rebuilding ruins with old methods, making our own energy.

I am looking for people to help me 6 hours per days 4 days a week. I expect autonomus people who are not afraid to work hard and walk.
People need to be able to reach us by foot, work independently, cook for everyone, do a bit of housekeeping.
You must be aware that it's not a holiday center...

In exchange I will be happy to give them food, housing, activities happening around in the valley, trekking and exchange knowledge. You will be lodged in a commune house with a dry toilet outside.

Most of work is hard and outside: building with stones, electric fences, clean the fields, ... more inside

Bonjour,

Now planning for 2020 –( March +)

Keith and I took early retirement from our careers in the UK to live Keith’s dream here in the beautiful Ariege. We certainly did live the dream together and shared a wonderful lifUe. Keith recently lost his battle with cancer. I now find I need help more than ever.

TASKS
I need two pairs of willing hands in the form of a mature minded, sociable couple; partners or two friends who are prepared to share a bedroom with a double bed.
Should you be planning for year ahead it may be an idea to book early; for a 5 to 10 day stay during the period of March to late October 2020.
Tasks are usually gardening based.
Spring is a time for garden maintenance; mending growing beds, clearing winter debris and possibly some digging & planting etc. During the summer months there are always jobs to do and perhaps small projects. The autumn, time is usually spent clearing beds and preparation for the winter months.

Projects/tasks are not hard and ... more inside

We are an English family some of who have lived in the area for 10+ years others are more recently arrived. We run a bike hire business from our Mill near Saumur.

We live in a Water Mill that we are renovating. The Mill is located 10 mins from Saumur and the Loire. There has been a Mill here for 300 years. We have lots of exciting ideas that cover lots of different skills and are very enthusiastic to turn them into reality. We have general tasks all year that anyone can do (cleaning, painting, gardening, assisting in building work).

We would be interested in volunteers looking to stay for a couple of months in the summer to assist with the B&B, hostel, bike rental, kayak rental and terrace bar.

Thanks for your interest
