We're a couple who gave up the rat race and set up our smallholding from scratch seven years ago, recently completed our new build house. We have pigs, sheep, ducks, chickens, turkeys (until Christmas), three dogs (in the house) and a old cat who has recently moved in to the house! Gillian is 45 and used to work in retail management, David is a very, very young 72, retired and was a qualified architect who then set up several successful businesses. Of our three dogs one is a bit annoying and looks for a lot of attention from you, but she eventually leaves you alone! We both have private pilots licences and have a huge collection of books for you to read. We live in a lovely rural setting Non-smokers only please!

We're looking for volunteers to take responsibility for feeding, watering and mucking out/ bedding our animals (pigs, sheep, chickens and ducks) which takes around 2 hours (split between morning and evening) plus 2-3 hours working on other projects (gardening/ veg plot, f... more inside

We live on an 11.5-acre croft (smallholding/farm) in the very north of Scotland just 26 miles short of John 'O Groats (the most northerly village on mainland Scotland).
We have Icelandic sheep, Pygmy goats and hens and try to live/run the croft as green and environmentally friendly as possible, everything is done by hand and we don’t allow tractors or heavy machinery on the land.
We have hosted 19 volunteers over the 3 years so far, from England, Canada, Spain, France, New Zeeland.

2017……… This year we need volunteers during May, June and July to help with sheep shearing and preparing fleeces for spinning (clean fleeces, card in to rolags and spinning – if you want to have a go). Hay making (cutting hay with a scythe, raking and turning then hand baling). There will be more raised beds to build, a bit of gardening and putting in the foundations for another room. If you have an interest in cow’s you could spend a day (time allowing) with our friend who has cows and sheep.

Wow, it’s been years since we had any helpers….and boy doesn’t it show in the garden.

Anyone fancy coming to stay in the woods? I have a list as long as my arm of things ‘To Do’ and just can’t manage them on my own. My boys are a lot older now and really don’t like gardening at all, so I’m wondering if some of you lovely helper out there might like to stay with us over the Summer.

A little bit about us, we live in a 100-acre organic woodland, on the edge of Salisbury Plain, 15 mins from Stonehenge and the rather more exciting Avebury (part of the same World Heritage Site as Stonehenge but somewhat older) is 25 mins away. Bath is pretty cool and we go to the station in Westbury fairly regularly which is the trainline to Bath if you ever wanted to explore it. There are easy rail links to Salisbury or Westbury or you can get to us by coach via London to Devizes, our local town.

A lot of the helpers we have had in the past appreciate the fact that Lacock (where Harry Potte... more inside

Individual or couple needed to help us turn recently acquired 2 acre smallholding into paradise. A mixture of building and gardening skills would be good, ideally in permaculture. Caravan accomodation with a woodburning stove, electric, wifi, compost loo. Stunning setting. Many barns full of swallows, some raised beds and fruit bushes and a large orchard. 5 healthy beehives, 17 bantam chickens.
Offering susbsistence living allowance or more to the right person/people plus option of paid work and experience with qualified renewable heating installer. As we have a large family of 5 kids and two of the kids are 5 and 9, we would be open to offering some money in exchange for a few hours of childcare here and there.
7 miles for the Centre for Alternative Technology near the lovely market town of Machynlleth.
Any length of stay considered.
We speak Spanish, Danish, French, German, Polish and some other bits and bobs..

Coastal smallholding 1 mile from the sea, with beautiful views and easy access to West Wales coastal routes. Now in its 8th year of development, featuring market garden, pasture and woodland.

We work with our livestock to manage and improve the land, as well as providing food for table.
A small market garden is being re-established and sadly our polytunnel fell victim to the high winds so will be replaced eventually...with a solar passive version. We have a neglected eating/cider orchard which is in process of being brought back into full production.
Home is a bungalow that requires modernisation and we have an ongoing strawbale timber roundhouse project- which is habitable with a small coal/wood stove, it does have power and cooking faclities but only cold water. Composting toilet outside. Showering facilities etc via main house. We have a touring caravan for accommodation as well as a winterised bell tent in addition to main house/roundhouse.

We share our lives and home... more inside

We have a large veg plot, mixed fruit trees, chickens, bees and 13 sheep. Although not certified organic we use no sprays or chemical fertalizers and are keen to protect our surrounding wildlife.
This is very much a family enterprise with every body mucking in, especially for the larger jobs like lambing and haymaking.
Tasks can include weeding,pruning,pest control,
planting, shearing, haymaking, fruit picking, all depending on the season.
We are also interested in any body with experience of caring for the elderly. My father has parkinsons and early onset dementia although he's very much still involved in the daily running of things we'd be grateful for any one who'd be prepared to get involved in the domestic chores. There's always plenty of mouths to feed and fresh food to be prepared.

Full board and accommodation is provided. You'd be expected to work around 4/5 hours daily.

The part of suffolk we live in is great for walking and cycling,(we have bikes etc you can borrow).... more inside

PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU APPLY TO WORK WITH US:

I have recently moved to Draycott, Somerset - beautiful area in the Mendip Hills - area of outstanding natural beauty, 2 miles from Cheddar (town Cheddar cheese is named after and famous for Cheddar Gorge). There are lots of lovely walks in the area.

We're 15 minute drive to Wells, 30 minutes drive to Glastonbury and about 40-50 minutes drive to Bristol. Lots of cool alternative events in Bristol and Glastonbury. Buses available though you need to change at Wells or Bristol & it takes quite long! https://www.rome2rio.com/map/Draycott-Somerset-England/Bristol

I would love help with plastering, insulating, painting and decorating the house and digging and planting a veggie bed, building a compost area, as well as general help around the house, garden and with the kids. Help with cooking too. Other exciting projects brewing!

My kids are 10,7 and 5 - they attend the local school and they love to learn about oth... more inside
