Looking for a helper from July

We have a busy family home in inner Melbourne suburb of East Brunswick. We live in a very cool suburb, 5 km from Melbourne CBD. It is a vibrant local area with loads of parks, bars, cafes and restaurants and culture, with trams right here to get you into the city in 20 minutes.

We would like to exchange 20-25hours of light work for room and board. We are looking for a helpx helper who is willing to help with housekeeping, gardening, maybe some cooking and painting, and to pick up kids from school. We enjoy welcoming helpers to our home to enjoy some cultural exchange. We would prefer someone to stay 1 month or more if possible, but shorter stays are possible.

We are an energetic family who are busy with lots of sports, study and work. We are up early in the mornings so if you like your sleep ins you need not apply. We also try to live in a sustainable way, and would love a helper who has a green atttitude.

We live in Mallacoota, on the south east coast and one of the most beautiful places in Australia. It is a World Biosphere Reserve in the middle of the Croajingolong National Park with the ocean, lakes and beaches at our doorstep. We are 3kms from the centre of town, and 4km from the nearest beach. There are about 7 magnificent beaches within 10kms from us. BUT be warned, Mallacoota is 540kms from Melbourne, 630kms from Sydney and 360kms from Canberra with limited access via public transport so keep that in mind when planning your schedule.

Our family includes Mark, Cate and our three daughters, who are 15, 13 and 10 years old. There are also a dog, a cat, a horse, 3 ducks, a rooster and 14 chickens (we sell the eggs locally). Kangaroos visit our property daily. Some of the parrots are now so tame at our bird feeder they can be hand fed.

Our 3.5-hectare property needs tidying, cleaning, and minor repairs. Work includes animal care, gardening, and helping with house... more inside

Would you like to help out at a small organic market garden bordered by both a river and a creek in a beautiful valley surrounded by rolling hills and statuesque gum trees?

You can walk around the town and surrounding countryside and experience gorgeous views for photography, drawing and painting, or just contemplation. You can swim in our river (complete with mini-beach) as well as at the spectacular nearby attractions of Turpins Falls and The Cascades. There are tennis courts you could use in Metcalfe and we also have bikes you could use to explore the area.

We are 20 minutes away from Kyneton and Castlemaine, two great towns with historic buildings and artisan markets, and not much further from Daylesford and Bendigo.

We use some permaculture methods in the garden such as rotating pigs and chickens through the vegie beds and the mini-orchard. Everything is grown by hand and hoe. We grow a wide variety of vegies, berries and fruits which we supply to locals.<... more inside

Even though it is winter in Victoria here you will be very very warm. Our house is aways warm. We have big wood fires and an old 4 oven AGA wood stove which go day and night.

We live on a farm which provides a great deal of our food. We always have meat ( chicken, pork, beef, lamb) in the freezer and eggs ( duck , guinea fowl, pheasant, hen) and goat milk. We also grow vegetables.

At this time we are setting up vegetable gardens for later planting

We have fabulous food every day - Thai curries, pizzas, roasts, stews. There is always a LOT of food. We make our own beer and wine and ginger beer and lemonade . We make jams and pickles and cheese and butter. We do not take vegetarians or vegans.

We live about 25km from Ballarat in Victoria and can pick people up from the railway station if you do not have a car.

HELPXers who are here generally help (voluntarily) about 5 hours a day.

About us
Hi, our names our Stephanie and Dave, we are a married couple with two of three kids at home 14 and 24. We both work full time, Dave is a plumber and Steph is a teacher. We are what you would call a typical family, sometimes a little dis-functional but otherwise normal. At the moment we are a little busy with work and visiting our son in hospital after a serious car accident, so our time is precious. Because of this we haven’t had time to do the things we’d like to do around our home and so we are need of some help. Dave is pretty handy and is pretty knowledgeable in building and renovating. Steph loves to cook and pretty good at it (see Instagram steph_artizan_kitchen for food she has cooked), she also loves decorating, gardening and creating artworks (when she has time). We both love to socialise and happy to welcome you into our home as part of our family.

Accomodation
Our home is a two storey cottage with an attic on elevated and hilly two and a half acres of land... more inside

There is a good variety of tasks depending on the season and skills of the helpers.Work hours will vary depending on the task.
Accommodation is a comfortable self-contained caravan close to the main house with a Kitchenette, heating/cooling, DVD player, radio etc. Breakfast provisions are provided in the caravan and lunch and dinner is in the house with me. Our organic/biodynamic vineyard, vegetable gardens, farmhouse café and cellar door needs happy, fit, outdoorsy helpers for longer stays - minimum of 4 weeks.

You will experience a beautiful farm on the Bellarine Peninsula close to Geelong and the Great Ocean Road. Our waterfront vineyard/winery/cafe with provedore vegetable and fruit gardens has hosted happy young travellers for over three years and our growing popularity means we are busy all year round in the gardens, vineyards, bushland and café.

On the farm we use sustainable practices with our grapevines, vegetables and fruit production and the farm looks out over the Ramsar Listed wetlands and marine National Park of Swan Bay towards the historic seaside village of Queenscliff. We are situated 10 mins from Queenscliff, 30 mins Geelong and 90 mins Melbourne (60mins train).
