I have a small house in Zone 2, London. The room doubles as my office when there are no guests so I will need to pop in and out to get things. It has bunk beds, a closet and desk. Most of the work is basic gardening/landscaping. There's a small garden out front and a 65' garden in the rear. I'd also like the deck rebuilt at some point if that's something anyone out there can do. I'm not much of a cook, but will provide food that you can cook yourself. During term time my children are only home on the weekends, so the place is pretty quiet.

We've been part of Helpx for several years now and have met some wonderful people from all over the world, many of whom we still keep in touch with.

We live in York, in the north of England, where we have a garden and (a 10 minute walk away) an allotment where we grow fruit and vegetables.

We try to cultivate using the `no-dig` method and like to re-use and recycle wherever possible.

Our house has solar panels on the roof for water and electricity as we are keen to reduce our impact on the environment.

The work includes turning and spreading compost, weeding, seed sowing, planting out, grass cutting and fence painting.

From early summer, fruit and vegetables are ready to be harvested and prepared for freezing and conserving.
If the weather is bad then there are always jobs to get on with in the house, garage and greenhouse.

We can offer all meals, laundry and accommodation, (in a double bed/own bathroom) in return for a helping hand, usually around 4-5 hours a day... more inside

This hillside farm property has been in the family since 1904. For the majority of this time the farm was a traditional dairy farm reliant on petrochemical fertilisers, feed supplements and red diesel. In August 2006 I (Ian) returned from working abroad to start a new business on the farm to prove small scale agriculture can be environmentally aware, promote biodiversity and remain viable in a difficult and competitive market such as food production.

Today:
• Operates an on farm butchery and bakery
• Is an employer both on the farm outside Oswestry, Shropshire where we look after the land, animals, run courses and make pies, and in Hatfield, Herts for delivering into London and the SE
• Is a real working farm with free range animals
• Distributes chilled food products on behalf of national award winning chefs and food producers

The proceeds from these activities are re-invested by a Community Interest Company providing horticultural therapy projects for a wide range of l... more inside

*** Help needed in September and October - mainly gardening but possibly some home decoration and carpentry ***

We are a English/Australian couple who own a house with very small small-holding just outside Canterbury. We have 3 children, Josie (10), Hazel (8) and Greta (2). We have a very large garden that we are slowly turning into a small-holding. We have a vegetable garden, orchard, chickens and 2 cats.
We would love help with gardening, house decoration (painting, etc), landscaping, weeding and carpentry.
We can offer a bedroom in our lovely home, sharing the family bathroom. We also have an old caravan if you would prefer more privacy. We love travelling and really enjoy meeting people from all over the world. Our house has wifi and we can offer light breakfasts and lunches (DIY) as well as dinners. We are just outside of the beautiful cathedral city of Canterbury which is accessible by bus or car. Canterbury is also just 1 hour by train from London.

Ben and Larry live the good life - or at least we try to!

Our farm is our home, work and life and every aspect of our numerous activities go towards making a life, not just a living.

Ours is a working farm and we aim to use traditional methods alongside modern techniques. We endeavour to take the best of the past and combine it with the best of the future. Our objective being to create a low environmental impact and respect for our surroundings, we think of it as ‘Heritage In The Making’.

We grow the majority of our own food and try to eat in tune with the seasons with home produced feasts for celebrations but all meals are special for us and provide an opportunity for daily gatherings.

We have two kitchen gardens, a herb garden and a poly-tunnel as well as our new venture of a market garden plot. From this, we can enjoy on our own vegetable produce almost all year round. We forage and gather in the hedge rows and preserve the seasonal abundance for the leaner months ... more inside

Hi Helpers,
We run a high quality dinner, bed & breakfast from our home, Melfort House, in the Scottish Highlands. Melfort House has a reputation for providing luxurious, elegant accommodation and excellent food. We operate a 54 foot polytunnel which provides us with veg and salad for our business and family. We have a stretch of foreshore onto Loch Melfort, some native woodland and number of fields and paddocks around the house which provide grazing to livestock. We have two children (17 & 22) who are away from home but occasionally make an appearance at weekends and holidays, and 2 dogs. We need 1 or 2 people (a couple or friends) to help us - preferably for a 3+ week stay. Our helpers need to have good English to converse with our guests. We need people who are happy to be flexible and prepared to help with the garden & polytunnel, dog walking and house keeping. In return, we can offer private, spacious accommodation, all food, laundry and WIFI. We are surrounded by... more inside
