INTERESTED IN HELPING LGBTIQ ARTISTS?!

Hi all!
I'm in the process of renovating a big 1930s shop / house into an artists residence. And I need help! :)
The Artist Residence once the house is renovated will be for minority artists, particularly LGBTIQ artists from around the world who might not be able to safely work in their home countries.
The house is situated in the village of Niinisalo in western Finland. There is a bus stop about 50 metres from the house so it is easy to get to. From Helsinki it's about 4 hours by train and bus, from Tampere less than 2 hours by bus.
The village itself is very small and has no services. The closest town is Kankaanpää about 7 kilometres away. There is a good biking road all the way to town and bikes are available :) The town has all the basic services, shops, restaurants etc.
There is a public beach by a lake short walk/bike from the house.
House has been uninhabited for nearly 20 years and is in pretty bad shape. During the summer 201... more inside

Our business is a small home-based husky farm. Our dogs are friendly
with a variety of personalities.

We constantly train dogs for the winter. The training consists of
running dog teams with cart or ATV mostly every day in the warmer
months. In preparation for winter, we build more kennels for the dogs
and chop firewood.

Volunteers share a bedroom and share the rest of the house with the
host. Internet access is available in the evenings. Volunteers join in
kitchen and housework. Hours are divided through the day, and it's
physically hard, but very rewarding.

During winter 2017-2018 we will work at two different places. At home
in Suomussalmi, and in Kuusamo, where we will be organizing husky
safaris.

In the middle of November I will move to Kuusamo with most of the
dogs, and another guide comes to Suomussalmi.

In Suomussalmi our farm is located in a remote place in the forest
surrounded by swamps. There are good options for hiking, spending time
in nature... more inside

LOOKING FOR HELP NOW (STARTING AS OF AUGUST 6)

I have a small farm in a beautiful location right next to a lake in Central Finland. When I was a child, we had dairy cows, then beef cattle. When the animals had to go, we continued growing oats and barley for many years. When my dad died, I rented out most of the fields but kept three hectares to myself so I could still be a farmer of some sort. I planted Phacelia, which is a good nectar plant, and got some honey bees. Then I went to a beekeeping school and got my beekeeper’s diploma. Currently I have about ten beehives.

Accordingly, you’ll have to feel more or less comfortable with thousands of bees buzzing around your head if you decide this is your thing. But not to worry, I will provide you with a full bee suit and gloves. If you want to learn beekeeping, I can teach you.

The work depends very much on weather. There are no fixed working hours or days off. When something needs to get done with the bees, it gets done, be i... more inside

Welcome to join our family community on our new land recently bought last autumn! We have started bringing this old farm land back to life again after decades of abandonment. It’s a very exciting process with endless possibilities and freedom to try out, make experiments and learn. At the moment the circumstances here are very basic and it is also our conscious choice to live simply and close to the land. This place is for you if you enjoy a do-it-yourself attitude, love being outdoors, have adventure spirit and don’t require big comforts as found in the city. We spend most of our time outdoors. We do have electricity in our main house and we are at a biking distance (3km) from a village with all basic services.

We are four adults and four children – all of them under seven years old. We have three nationalities (finnish, swedish and dutch) and our common language is english. We have tiny houses on wheels and yurts as living spaces, a 50m2 house with wood heating and wood stove,... more inside

Hi!

We are bicultural family, who spends summers in Finnish country side near Savonlinna. This summer we would need help with house reparation and also with our kids of 3 (Menni) and 5 (Tao) years old 4-5 hours/ 4-5 days per week. There is also some help needed with take care of the land, basic house works, carrying water, wood work, painting, restoration. For take care of children we would require a person who really likes to be with kids and preferably Italian spoken (don't need to be an Italian necessarily), because they are bilingual and need to keep up their second language.

We will offer in change delicious vegetarian meals, own room to stay, tranquility of clean Finnish nature (at least while our bit noisy family is sleeping) and fun time with our not-so-serious family. The house is located about 18 kms from the city. We are surrounded by beautiful forests and from mid July on you can start to find first Chanterelles and blueberries. You can come along with us on our ... more inside

Hello !

--- update may 11: summer season is about to begin and we are willing to take helpers to visit Kokemäki. Sorry about delay with the responses, but we will answer to everyone as soon as possible. Quickest way to contact is to call or send text message. ---

I am running a retro-style small hotel/b&b in Kokemäki. Kokemäki is a municipality of almost 8000 inhabitants, situated in the province of Satakunta in southwestern Finland.

We also run a summer cafe in July with our family in an old house called Lääkäri. The Lääkäri house is a unique interior with the original 1930's decor. Traditional finnish old farmhouse with a sauna by the pond. The Finnish movie "Postia pappi Jaaakobille" was filmed in that house.

I welcome English speaking international helpers. I used to work in cruise ships and on those days I travelled for example around the USA. I've lived in New Zealand for four years... more inside
