Hi, I'm Cole. My home is a collection of cottages on a waterfront property in Gloucester, VA. I own 2 restaurants and work 7 days a week. I need help around the place with general maintenance, weeding, minor gardening feeding the ducks and chickens I raise.Currently in need of help cleaning up around the yard and organizing storage sheds. I would only expect a few of hours work each morning. The location is somewhat remote, very quiet and peaceful. Open minded (I am gay), relaxed atmosphere. There is a kayak available for use. High speed internet is also available. I provide food, but because of the hours I work you would usually be cooking for yourself. Accommodations is your own small cottage. May through October is the best time to come, as there is much more to do outdoors and on the water, kayaking, fishing, swimming in the creek.
Thanks for looking!

Come live in a new, start-up commune and help us with our farming! We grow our food, but most especially focus on growing for seed, variety trials, and vegetable breeding projects. This is a great learning opportunity, and if you're enthusiastic about farming we are excited to teach you.

If you are someone who is never satisfied with the status quo, loves to innovate, free associate, create, invent, and just generally shake things up, you will love Sweet Wind Farm. If you have some time and energy to donate over the summer, Sweet Wind Farm will love you back.

In addition to the farming operation, I am currently finishing up construction of a commercial kitchen here on the farm, which will allow production of fully cooked and ready to eat menu items right from the farm. Kick-off is planned for around April 30, 2018.

Some of the things I've developed here are: Fodder production for rabbits, colonized (cage free) rabbit system, Fermented feed for broilers, broilers in rotational grazing yards, water capture, production of perennial medicinal plants for all livestock, vertical growing of vegs to supply chickens and rabbits, greenhouse growing, raised bed companion planting, and so much more...

I would prefer a capable female helper but would consider a... more inside

Volunteers for the 2018 season mid-March to mid-November are now being scheduled. Please send a request to discuss any openings.

SCHEDULE: Typically I host volunteers from late February through mid-November, for stays of 10 to 21 days at a time. Volunteers are expected to contribute about 5 hours per day, 5 days per week, mainly outdoors in the garden, on a DIY project, or household maintenance work. Additionally, help preparing meals and/or kitchen cleanup after meals taken in common is expected.

I have a wide variety of small to medium-sized DIY and home maintenance projects that I expect to work on in 2018. The more typical homesteading projects of gardening, food preservation and poultry keeping will also continue. The homestead/garden work at any given time is determined by season and/or the weather. During summer, the garden work begins in early morning to avoid the hot hours of the day. This work will start before breakfast on the hottest days.

Most of my guests come through an organic farming site, but I just heard about HelpX and think that it could be useful for stuff beyond Organic farming that doesn't necessarily involve agriculture-focused tasks.

There are a variety of tasks such as cleaning out my basement, clearing brush in the wood line, prepping plant beds for the next season. possibly light construction projects

Type of help required: Variable, mostly I'm just too busy to do some of the more time consuming and monotonous tasks.
Number of hours expected: We’ll discuss this
Rules about phone us: Use your own as you see fit
Whether smoking is permitted: Unfortunately not, I'm allergic to the smoke.
Type of food/meals provided: we'll discuss this, but there are so many different diets, It's easier for me to just take you to the market and let you cook your own food.
Are children or pets allowed? As long as you clean up after them.
Distance to local shop. 1-2km
Directions and methods of trans... more inside
