Multi-purpose project combining a home and care for people with special needs, specifically the mentally disabled youth and adults, with organic farming. Our organic farm is growing continuously, as is the garden and the home itself...we are always short of helping hands!
We are situated in one of the poorest areas of the Eastern Cape in South Africa, the rural former Transkei.
One hour away from Elliotdale, 8km from the indian ocean and Cwebe Nature Reserve.
A chance to see and live within one of the last rural Xhosa Villages!
Building season here is from April to September, which is when we are in need of construction-experienced people; there's always something to be built in dry season, whether it may be additions to the farm or houses. We also receive donations of timber each year, and basically create all our furniture, stables, roofs etc. from this wood. So, to all handyman, farmers and carpenters- please lend a hand!
Also trained and/or experienced care-givers are welcom... more inside

A perfect opportunity for someone staying in Johannesburg for a few weeks or months, maybe doing research, writing a thesis or working online from home.

We are a work-from-home, homeschooling family, running two businesses relating to community upliftment, living in a leafy suburb in the middle of Johannesburg.

We have just moved into a large house with beautiful pool in Northcliff and have many empty bedrooms. We offer a private bedroom with en-suite bathroom, unlimited wifi and the use of the garden, home gym and pool. In exchange we are expecting about 2 to 3 hours of "work" a day. Whether you are good with Wordpress and can help with building our website, help with creating content, paint walls or bake cookies with our daughter, we are happy to work with your interests and talents.

The room is part of the main house but offers privacy, has its own front door and you are welcome to host guests and feel fully at home. If you are doing research in South Africa, we will ... more inside

Looking for interested volunteers to work on permaculture, worm farming, animals and fruit trees. We are more inclined in a holistic process of development which not only focus on the outside but also the inside of a person. Thus if you want a space for meditation, quietness, long walks and personal healing this will be an ideal place for you to be. We respect personal development and journeys, of which are seen as a significant contribution to the eco-village as it is made to be a place of healing and personal growth. We welcome volunteers who want to join the project in a long-term or short-term and perhaps eventually graduate to be members of the eco-village. We are a multicultural project that aims to promote diversity, cohesion, sustainability and open dialogue.

Hi there! This is a beautiful, popular, alternative, eco-friendly backpackers that overlooks the stunning Tsitsikamma nature reserve on the Garden Route of South Africa. Only 8km from Natures Valley beach and lagoon, our farm is surrounded by natural forests, wildlife, peace and quiet. We have a private waterfall in the forest just below our vibey tree-house bar, and a constant flow of interesting, adventurous, passionate and conscious travellers passing by every single day.

We run our hostel on an ‘energy-trade’ system. This means that travellers who would like to be with us for a longer period can stay on and help us run the backpackers in a variety of different ways in exchange for their food and lodging. We encourage a stay of 1 month or longer, but can make exceptions where possible for shorter time-frames.
We are particularly interested in people with experience or interest in the hospitality industry (reception, bar, cooking), alternative energy, organic gardening and ca... more inside
