UPDATE 16 July 2020:

MY BOAT IS HEADING NORTH at the end of August for a full repaint - a professional job that will take the whole month of September to complete! I now have the helpers I was looking for to assist with the journey north, and back in early October. Depending on the weather, and the latest Covid situation, I may be looking for helpers in November and early December, as well as for 2021.

IMPORTANT NOTE re: Coronavirus / Covid-19:

The UK is beginning to relax the restrictions of the last few months as the incidence of Covid infection is gradually decreasing. We have not been allowed to use our boats since March but can do so from 04 July, including staying overnight.

Contrary to popular belief in Britain, Covid is still with us for the foreseeable future, so I am taking sensible precautions which include reasonable distancing from other canal users, disinfecting common surfaces, regular hand washing, and great care if visiting canal side pubs. I am also a... more inside

COVID-19 UPDATE: We stopped hosting volunteers at the beginning of COVID-19 to protect David who is 75, we still do not mix with family members and have had no one in our house since then so we do not take the decision likely to invite someone in to our home. It goes without saying that you should not volunteer if you have symptoms or believe you have come in to contact with anyone with symptoms and we will only consider hosting someone who has already been in the UK for some time. While living with us we would want David's safety to be a priority and will supply you with hand sanitisers and masks and would expect you to show due care to maintain social distancing in our house (it's pretty spacious) and with strangers on your days off. COVID is real and we know people who have died from it...volunteers should take this very seriously. Thank you.

We're a couple who gave up the rat race and set up our smallholding from scratch 12 years ago, recently completed our new build house wi... more inside

My home is on the edge of a lovely Cotswold town, with a park/meadow a couple of minutes walk from the front door. There is a VERY small garden (but lovely south-facing terrace) with the house. I've made some changes since we moved back from Spain but still inevitably have little DIY and garden projects on the list....
However what I mainly need help with is a mix of those diy jobs and taming the two half-allotments I have about a four minute walk from home.

I speak intermediate Spanish, my 18 year old son is bilingual. We're only too happy to welcome native Spanish speakers... but don't worry, everyone will be made welcome!

As I see it, the main issue will be that I work really difficult hours so can't be with the helpers anywhere near as much as I'd like. I welcomed lots of HelpXers at our previous home in Spain and fully understand it's all about interchange of cultures as well as a healthy sharing of hours of work - preferably together. But as I said, this is not so ... more inside

Do you like to work in the garden? Do you like dogs? I take in rescue dogs and then rehome where I can, you definitely need to like animals. At the moment I'm in need of help in the garden from September to organise it ready for the end of the year and ready for Next

I am a strictly non smoking place both inside and out. Smokers including those who vape, will be asked to leave. I have had several helpers here who think it is not a problem to vape or smoke if they are in a different room or outside but I really find it makes me feel quite sick and the clothes of smokers also smell which then comes into the house.

Can you speak English, do you like animals and working outdoors?

Note that we are currently closed as a BnB, however, still lots of projects to get your hands on and every day life tasks.

We are a multicultural family of 4, an Italian and a white Jamaican, two kids English and Scottish, 14 and 7 years old. We live in the heart of Edinburgh in a six bedroom Victorian house split over three floors.

After almost four years in trading now our BnB is blooming, with all three rooms to capacity. We are currently seeking helpers to assist in all daily activities around our house and in keeping it tidy. As we have a cleaner who comes during our busiest time to help in the B&B the needed work there is only minimal.

However, we would like to find someone who can help with the kids and further assistance in light work in the house.

Ideally, we want to encourage volunteers who have English as their second language to come here as we believe in the learning benefits of being immersed in the culture of the language you are learning. Ve is an Englis... more inside
