Mark and I run a restaurant and B&B with 16 rooms in Cornwall. We are situated in a lovely wooded valley beside a river and only 10 minutes walk down to St Austell town. The famous Eden Project is just a few miles away. The Building was originally a Blowing House (tin smelting) and later was used in the clay drying business. We have just under 2 acres with ponds and tree ferns . The jobs would mainly be helping us to clear trees and shrubs on the valley banks, cutting and shredding wood, sorting out ponds, some cleaning or painting if the weather is too bad.
We have a lovely black labrador and a cat.
We can offer one of our double en-suite rooms with breakfasts and evening meals and a 'help yourself' lunch for 20 hours of help per week. Last time we had HelpXers they volunteered every other day so that they could make the most of their time in Cornwall. We have free internet and a bike for transport. This would be ideally suited to a couple.
We can only need extra help from No... more inside

From December 1st, Grow Heathrow is open to new volunteers of all genders, for a 2-month trial period.

At this point we are able to accept 4 new volunteers per month: after being here for a week as a guest, you can apply to be a volunteer for another 3 weeks, following which you will have the opportunity to apply to be a long term volunteer for 3 months. This is so we can all get to know each other and make sure we're going to get along in the long run!

It's chilly and gets dark early at this time of year, so you will need to come equipped with warm winter clothes, a sleeping bag and a torch!

On to the story of how we came to be...

There are a few acres of land by the M4 and M25 motorways in west London where three dilapidated greenhouses stand. Since 2010 a group of activists, local residents and people living off-grid have worked to return them to their original purpose as a market garden, and to make them into a community centre.

At meetings we use a process called... more inside

I live in a beautiful part of the UK - wooded and lush, with great walks and easy access by road and rail to the rest of the South.

I run a BnB in an old house with a large garden and woodland, and it's a lot to manage. I've taken on help before in the past and it's worked out very well so I'm looking forward to doing the same again.

In exchange for about 5 hours help a day, you will have your own room, wifi, all meals, laundry.. one of the family basically. I am very flexible when it comes to fitting in trips and visits.

The helping hours you are required are flexible depending on the weather and what needs doing that day. I have a garden and grow fruit and vegetables.

The work can vary to suit you and can include:

GARDEN: digging, weeding, shed building, green house, fruit cages, herbaceous borders, lawn, drive..
WOODLAND: moving logs, knowing how to use a chainsaw would be useful
HOUSE OUTSIDE: painting, gutters, some building work if you've the skills,

Approximately 4 hours a day but with most of the day available for you to explore the area. We live 10 minutes walk from the town (St Peter Port), or to our beautiful local beaches.

Accommodation is a room separate to the house, but you can eat and live with us.

Would suit someone wanting to experience the Channel Islands and learn some English.

Come and enjoy a peaceful rural retreat in our painted caravan ( see photo) it is very simple with just a bed and a little woodburner. We live on a South facing smallholding 1400' high in the Welsh Cambrian mountains, we also have a bell tent ( see photo) to stay in during the summer months up on the terraces if you prefer more privacy or if there are more people staying. The caravan sleeps one person or a couple (one double bed) We now have another caravan with a double bed which hasn't yet been painted or converted, it still has gas heating and an electric light.
Washing facilities are in our family house and there is a separate toilet ( flushed using a bucket of water) in the studio. We cook in the kitchen in our family house, and eat communally, we are also building an outside kitchen. We eat together outside mostly in the summer and in the family house when it's colder.
We are looking for people to stay here on a short term basis who want to be outside in nature and want the... more inside

Now looking for someone for a few weeks from late November.

We are Anna, Angelo and Lucy. We live in a large Edwardian house in a leafy suburb of Manchester with a good sized garden where we grow fruit and veg. We both work in horticulture and have a very busy couple of weeks coming up before Christmas, so we'd welcome some help picking up Lucy from school . We have already hosted several wonderful helpxers over the last 3 years. You need to be warm, outgoing, considerate, and to like kids. If you can cook, or drive in the UK, that would be a bonus. You need good enough English to communicate well with 9 year old Lucy. We ask for 5 hours per week day of help with childcare, housework, gardening and DIY. In return we would offer you your own room and bathroom, Internet access and family meals. Non smokers and female helpers only please. We both speak several languages so would be happy to help improve your English if required. On days off you would be within easy reach of... more inside

We (Pete and Sophia) moved to the Welsh Borders in February 2017. Having spent a couple of years travelling in our campervan, HelpXing and living in the Alps. It felt like the time to put down some roots & begin a new adventure. We are both 33 & have a young energetic German Shorthaired Pointer, called Juno. We are looking for liberal-minded people with a 'can do' disposition to help alongside us and share wine/beer by a fire some evenings. We see this as a great opportunity to meet new people & we loved our time HelpX-ing. We want you (anyone volunteering with us) to have a great time & we'll do all we can to make sure you're happy and have things to do that you enjoy.

This place, our new home, consists of 10 acres of woods; a crazily overgrown garden; a pond; a timber frame house (which we are living in and renovating); plus a little woodland cabin (featured in the pictures below).

We are looking for volunteers to help us get to grips with the woodland and garden from Septe... more inside

BOOKING ONE-WEEK SLOTS THIS WINTER

We need willing Helpxers with strong arms to finish putting the garden to bed this year. Sweeping leaves, splitting logs, tidying flowerbeds, sharpening tools, cleaning the greenhouse.

We live in a 300-year old cottage on a Cotswold farm in an isolated spot in the middle of the beautiful Gloucestershire countryside.

There is a very large garden that has an organic vegetable patch with raised beds; an orchard of apples, pears, cherries and plums; a woodland garden, a flower garden, a pond and a wildflower corner. You can see them in the photos.

We recently acquired four chickens, traditional breeds from the Cotswolds. They have just started laying eggs and are absolutely delightful.

I split my time between running a business from home and trying to keep up with the demands of the garden. So help is always welcome.

I can offer helpers accommodation and wonderful fresh home-grown food in exchange for six hoursí work Monday to Fr... more inside
