We are a family owned and operated farm seated beneath the Blue Ridge Mountains near historic Lexington, Virginia. Our gardens (totaling to 3 acres), laying hens, and a variety of perennials located throughout the farm produce a bounty of delectable greens, peppers, squash, brassicae, herbs, preserves, berries, fruits, eggs and tintures to feed two of our local markets as well as our CSA.

As we strive to feed our community we are never left with a dull moment! Work on the farm requires diligence, patience, and a good sense of humor. We are seeking like-minded individuals who have an interest in sustainability and organic vegetable production. Common tasks include weeding, caring for chickens, mulching, and sowing seed. We are ready for volunteers who are looking to compromise a little bit of cell signal for soil under their fingernails and mulch in their boots.

Volunteers (this being you) will be housed along with the interns as well as an indoor cat. Internet, electricit... more inside

We are a small family farm mainly focusing on dairy goats and cows. We are Organic practice, we cannot afford organic certification here but do not use any chemicals on our plants. We do almost everything handmade/homemade so lots to learn. I would like to offer a room, food, etc in exchange for help. Some pay occasionally for extra jobs. someone who would like to stay and learn homesteading skills during our busy season and would appreciate the help since I am recovering from severe health problems. Usually about 3 hours a day of labor. A few hours of smaller jobs a week. During a basic day we wake up one person stays to make breakfast the rest of us head to the barn to do morning chores. We milk, feed, check water with everything and let animals out to pasture. Go in to eat then back out to work the garden till it's hot. Lunch then doing some things in the house when it's cool again back outside to work dinner then night chores milking, feeding, watering. We make a lot of foods,... more inside

We teach Agnihotra, an ancient method of purifying the atmosphere through specially prepared fire. People all over the world use Agnihotra for organic farming, personal healing, stress reduction, and to heal the environment from the effects of pollution. We also teach Homa Therapy farming.

We have a lakefront property with a large organic garden and woods. Excellent hiking trails are fairly nearby in Shenandoah National Park. (Helpers may use our Park Pass and visit the park free of charge.) Runners and hikers can also use the nearby fire trail, which is walking distance from our house. We are working toward a self-sufficient, sustainable lifestyle, and have solar-powered electric and hot water, a large solar dehydrator, a rocket stove and 2 Zebu cows. We've also begun experimenting with a solar oven.

We have many outdoor projects--gardening, yard work, landscaping and beautifying the place. In early spring we especially need help with redoing our electric fencing and preparin... more inside

I am a widower with a large older house and several acres outside of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. I need help maintaining the property, gardening and lawn work, as well as indoor maintenance, cleaning, and cooking. Also my grandchildren come to visit often so helpers must love children. There are several spare bedrooms and I offer meals and a private room in exchange for about 20 hours of help a week. This is a somewhat rural area with lots of farms, although the City of Lancaster is not far and Philadelphia, New York, and Washington are just a train ride away. My neice is also looking for help building a split-rail fence; she lives in the city of Lancaster so anybody with experience building fences can contact me and I will forward it to her.

An older home in a small village in the mid Hudson Valley region of NY. We have older kids and pets, and this is a laid back atmosphere. The accommodations are modest but comfortable and friendly. Shared bathroom. Shares kitchen. You provide your own food and cooking. I'm asking for 15 hours a week of work with a minimum stay of 3 days and a maximum stay of 2 weeks.

There is a bus to NYC that stops very close to the house. There is also a lot to do in this areas and many people vacation here for the outdoor activities- biking, hiking, mountain climbing, sky diving, etc and also enjoy the small nearby cities (Kingston, Poughkeepise) and their cultural offerings. The Walkway Over The Hudson is nearby.

Some of the work I need done is:

Painting (kitchen, bathroom, baseboards, stairwell)
Fence building (small yard)
Small repairs of all kinds
Refinishing an old claw foot tub3
Some small carpentry projects
Yard work
Porch repair/rebuild/paint
Shutters painted/replaced... more inside

My name is Susie and I'm looking for a animal loving (farm animals and rescue dogs) person to help work 4 hours per day at the most.
This is a small fowl farm that raises geese, turkeys, chicken, quail, duck and also breeds meat rabbits. The farm is only 4 acres with a 200 year old farm house and barns. It is located on a quiet, secluded dead end road.
I'm looking for someone to do; Farm chores, feeding, watering and cleaning buildings and yard work. Along with light house chores, cleaning, pick up and dishes when they need to be done. Usually I have plenty off food available cooked or in the pantry/freezer. I'm also a great cook who loves to feed people who like good food.
You can learn anything and everything there is about raising fowl from breeding, hatching to harvesting in a very humane, positive atmosphere. All of the animals are respected, cared for and treated better than most people treat their own children.
A Positive, upbeat attitude is a must and a strong love of ... more inside
