***Accepting folks during the Covid-19 pandemic as long as they have practiced proper precautionary practices(masks, sanitizer, social distancing, etc) & can drive to the farm.***

Our family has been in the Carolina low-country since the 1670s, and here on this property since 1827. The farm and family have seen many changes throughout the centuries, and is looking to the future!

An experimental and educational farm/homestead, we are working to bring a high level of self-sufficiency/sustainability here and to share our knowledge with our visitors.

This is the farm's 10th year hosting visitors. Forty-seven countries represented and over 400 guests staying, all have helped make the farm a better place. They have laughed, learned, sweated, plus they have help grow and have eaten some great food. We hope all that spend time here will take something positive away with them. Looking forward to another year of great helpers and guests!

We are open and have loads of renovation and farming projects underway!

We are a small farm and are considered an agri-tourism destination as we have a "Healing Spring" on the property. Discovered in 1883 the water from the spring has many curative powers. The spring is available for free to anyone who wants to come and get the water.

We are near many great hiking destinations, Mt. Rogers, Grayson Highlands State Park, Stone Mountain, Doughton Park and the many trails off of the Blue Ridge Parkway that crosses through our part of the state of North Carolina. We are just off of the New River with fishing, canoeing, and kayaking. Additionally, the Virginia Creeper Trail, Rocky Knob Park and the Railroad Grade trail offer great biking opportunities. We are 10 minutes from the town of West Jefferson with a great Farmers Market and cute town with artisan shops. We are just a short driving distance several larger cities.

Please note this is a healing place and is an alcohol, drug and tobacco-free environment. Please don't apply if you can't honor our policies. Fine to go out for a beer or glass of wine or on special occasions here. This is a school for sustainable living, a working farm, and homestead. It is located in the Nantahala Mountains on the eastern side of the Blue Ridge Mountains, 10 miles south of the town of Franklin, North Carolina (120 miles N.E. of Atlanta, GA and 70 miles west of Asheville, NC). The center's 32 acres lie in the heart of a small valley with a stream fed by numerous springs and surrounded by national forest. The stream provides water for an off-grid hydro-electric system. The area is home to wild turkey, deer, bear, and has one of the largest diversities of plants anywhere in the world. Huge chestnut stumps, remains of 1800 log cabins, mill raceways, spring houses, century-old farming roads, and old still sites, are reminders of a people and a way of life based on an... more inside

We are a multi-generational family homestead deep in the mountains of beautiful Western North Carolina. My family has occupied this 101 acre farm for the past 42 years. Our farm is located 45 minutes from Asheville, 25 minutes from Marshall and 45 minutes from Hot Springs.

We are looking for skilled and semi-skilled individuals who are willing to help us with the upkeep of our land. Jobs may include working in a small organic garden, clean-up, firewood, fencing, carpentry, landscaping, clearing trails and many other small jobs around the farm.

The weekly expectation is 10-15 hours of work in exchange for accommodations. The helper/s will supply and cook their own food and can share the harvest of whatever is currently in the garden. Community meals will be occasionally offered but not expected.

The extent of the stay is best for us with a longer commitment of one to three months. Accommodations suit a couple or two people traveling together.

We have not hosted a farm helper while we renovated our farm we now have newly remodeled bathrooms, two new barns.
We started our homestead here in horse country, North Carolina in 2012. We were here only a short time before we discovered the teaching of Geoff Lawton, Bill Mollison, and many others. We have a PDC from Geoff Lawton's first online course. Also, an excellent library for people interested in learning the sustainability principles, including the Designers Manual, The Holistic Orchard, The Resilient Farm and Homestead, and others. We also have all of Geoff's PDC CDs from the online course. It would be an effective use of your visit to try and complete the course before you leave.

We are particularly interested in integrating equiculture into our system. We have three horses. We are building paddocks and laneways with electrical fencing. We will have two baby piglets in June.

We use a rain collection system and we are building an irrigation system into it. We have... more inside

We are not hosting any helpers during the Covid 19 pandemic.

Small homestead farm in the Appalachian Mountains striving for a "greener" existence here by growing our own organic vegetables, eggs and chicken. We are developing orchards, berry patches and pasture land. There are 3 children, 2 dogs, a cat, a bunch of chickens, lots of deer and wild turkey, a fox and occasionally a bear. We provide a large room w private bath. Other "ammenities" include a small swimming pool, trampoline, bikes, and now a zip line!

We have hosted 84 travelers during the last 12 years through the WWOOF program and more recently through HelpX. Long term stays are preferred, but will make exceptions for international travelers. Our rules here are simple; Be Safe, Be Kind, and Be respectful. Also, no tobacco or drug use!!

We are 25 minutes from Asheville, North Carolina, which is a great town. Lots of good restaurants, almost 2 dozen breweries, tons of festivals, great bluegrass music and lots... more inside

This is a non profit Shamanic Center that offers community ceremony and monthly purification (sweat)lodges. We are located in the NW corner of North Carolina in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The High Country is a tourist destination near the Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, canoeing, and incredible hiking opportunities. West Jefferson is a 20 minute drive for grocery shopping and is a unique quaint small town. Boone (50 minute drive)a wonderful college town voted one of the top 10 place to live in the US, has great entertainment and shopping. There is very limited public transportation in this rural area so rides may not always be easy to come by.

Our mission is to provide a space for healing for seekers that desire to be a balanced human and contribute to raising the collective conscious on Grandmother Earth. We teach self responsibility and that life is about choices and that your life is about the choices you make.

The lodge also is an AirBnB host with 12 beds and 6 priv... more inside

***Looking for farm help with horses, 1 month minimum stay***

We work closely with a not for profit horse rescue farm, in Western North Carolina. We are looking for help with general farm maintenance, and upkeep. Duties will include grass cutting, weed eating, basic landscaping, fence repair, along with some horse care. Anyone here must love animals, be a non-smoker, a non-drug user and be very easy going. We are about 30 minutes from downtown Asheville and transportation is a must. Accommodations are an apartment with private bath, laundry, a mini kitchen and separate entrance. We would expect a HelpXer to work 20 hours a week independently and provide and prepare their own food. Hendersonville and the surrounding areas have wonderful places to explore. Pets are not an option as we have plenty already!
