I'm just back from one of the many trips I do each year, 6 months South for the Summers and 6 North for the Winters. The last trip was by car to Cooktown, for the warmth, sightseeing, working on hosts farms and finding out from them that there are not as many backpackers / helpxing , traveling or want to work on their travels....So! where are the helpers. Is it a sign of the times, backpackers now seem to be more independant, have campervans and my efforts to entice them here are drying up. Now I too will be closing down being a host and joining their ranks. The verdict is a sorry one as all 7 horses here will have to go to the knackers and be put down as there are too many to feed, just to look at. There was a beaut bush camp for the backpackers in a motorhome to themselves on 56 forested acres, where they had accommodation, food, travel to beaches and lazy days in a hammock. In my many approaches for helpers via the helpx wanted section I promised them the world, paid work for typing my many stories, (15 published), breakfasts in bed, foot massages, (yeah, yeah!) and free travel, food and tent accommodation when I often go 'walkabout' in my vehicle,. I have taken more than 150 backpackers to all States. I still go travelling, my next trip soon is South to the Snowy Mountains and Victoria for 5 months.

Next Destination(s):
Snowy mts in November
