Settling into Leipzig, hopefully for a while! Always looking to meet interesting people. Enjoy traveling alone but enjoy good company as well. Traveling with a bass guitar, so music is a plus! Hit me up if you're around
Have been traveling with helpx, mostly in Germany, often in alternative living communities, for the last year and a half. Decided Leipzig is my favorite city and currently working to settle here more permanently, looking to find a job here in the energy/environment/sustainability sector or get a masters, but enjoying my time and traveling a bit, improving my german as I go, and meeting more amazing people through the helpx community.
US raised with German Passport. Grew up on 8 hectares with chickens, other animals, and a large garden; experienced in many areas of farmwork and willing and able to work hard doing manual labor. Father is a woodworker and rebuilt our house while I was growing up, so I have basic woodworking, painting, handyman skills, very comfortable safely using power tools myself and working on complex projects alone. Built much of a wooden house with a Turkish guy outside of Halle.
Graduated from Harvard with a degree in Earth Science; have tutoring experience in English, math, and science, regularly exchange English lessons for Deutsch. Mein Deutsch ist endlich eigentlich kompetent, würde ich sagen. Normalerweise auf B2 Niveau, vielleicht C1 an einem guten Tag ;)
Spent the previous two years in the US working at a Mexican restaurant with incredible food, first as dishwasher, then server/bartender, and then bar manager. Spent plenty of time in the kitchen and have good cooking skills (mostly for veggie but ok meat, I eat everything but prefer veggie). Cooked a tremendous amount for many people for my most recent Helpx in Berlin over a couple months.
Personally, very laid back and low needs. Looking to meet interesting people and experience another side of life. Traveling with a bass guitar, and always always looking to play and share music. I particularly enjoy that helpx gives you such a unique window into how such varied groups of people in such different living situations find little solutions and ways of living that are all so great and inspiring... It's a collection of experience I have trouble imagining how to obtain in a different setting, and something I value really highly.
