I'm currently in Brussels, hitchhiking slowly to Gijon Spain but stopping here and there on the way. Check out my prof if you're into hitchhiking or want to hang, would love to hear from you
I have been living in Germany for over two years now, although a year and a half of that was traveling all over to learn the language, get a feel for the country, and decide where I wanted to live. The answer was Leipzig, and I've been there since the beginning of 2019, und ich kann endlich kompetentes Deutsch sprechen.
Currently doing a bit more traveling between jobs, hitchhiking Leipzig to Gijon, Spain and back over a couple months or so, stopping here and there on the way, as I've never been in this part of Europe before. Everything is fairly unplanned, and I tend to travel a bit in the last minute.
US raised with German Passport. Grew up on 8 hectares with chickens, other animals, and a large garden; experienced in many areas of farmwork and willing and able to work hard doing manual labor. Father is a woodworker and rebuilt our house while I was growing up, and after a couple years of helpx I have very competent woodworking stills, recently building a table from reclaimed wood that folds in half with the legs inside and up against the wall, to save space in my small apartment. Built much of a wooden house with a Turkish guy outside of Halle. I am comfortable using any wood power tools on complicated projects by myself. Additionally lots of painting, general handyman skills, competent with basic welding/metalwork, renovation of stone walls with plaster, gypsum etc. I can probably help with something!
Graduated from Harvard with a degree in Geophysics; have tutoring experience in English, math, and science, regularly exchange English lessons for Deutsch.
Spent the previous two years in the US working at a Mexican restaurant with incredible food, first as dishwasher, then server/bartender, and then bar manager. Spent plenty of time in the kitchen and have good cooking skills (mostly for veggie but ok meat, I eat everything but prefer veg). Cooked a tremendous amount for many people in all different places over germany, from restaurants to big groups of friends, to 300 person music festivals (150 cookies and 150 brownies in a day! I'll share my recipes if you ask nicely ;)
Personally, very laid back and low needs. Looking to meet interesting people and experience another side of life. Sadly traveling without my bass guitar or cello, if you had either of those it would be incredible! Always always looking to play and share music, I can play bits of guitar and piano and other things if there's no bass or cello around haha. I particularly enjoy that helpx gives you such a unique window into how such varied groups of people in such different living situations find little solutions and ways of living that are all so great and inspiring... It's a collection of experience I have trouble imagining how to obtain in a different setting, and something I value really highly.
