On a roadtrip to Perth, Iím looking for passengers to share the cost and the fun of the adventure. Passing through Adelaide tomorrow morning and stopping in Whyalla for the night. Probably spending a week to reach Perth. For the trip, you will need your sleeping equipment (have space tent if needed).
Roadtrip to Perth : Passing by Adelaide tomorrow morning (24th) and Whyalla in
My name is Gaspard, I'm 31 years old and I come from Guadeloupe, a french island in the Caribbean.
WHERE I COME FROM :
Never ear about my island before? Don't worry, that perfectly normal as it's a small island, far far away...
It's quite the same size of Fraser island in the Queensland but with twice the population of the Northern Territory. It's on 16į15" North under the tropic of cancer and the weather is warm all the year, with two seasons : the dry season from january to june and the raining season from july to december. The sea there is always around 27įC.
WHO AM I :
Iíve a MSc degree of Biology and I worked as an cartography engineer for two years and half in a research lab in Clermont-Ferrand (center of France). I worked on the river dynamics such as erosion or interactions with plants.
At the end of my contract, I went on travel for 5 months on my own in South-West Asia (Thailand, Cambodia, Viet-Nam and Lao) where I discovered totally new cultures, new tastes and amazing landscapes.
And I think that where I got the travelling bug, so when I came back to France I decided to renew the experience abroad on a different format with the Working Holiday Scheme and since then thatís what Iím doing.
MY WORKING HOLIDAY IN NEW ZEALAND :
I have been in New Zealand for 15 months, working hard in vineyards, citrus picking, kiwifruits, but also travelling extensively through both North and South Islands. My journey in NZ was also the occasion to meet great people and share piece of local life during my Woofing.
MY FIRST WORKING HOLIDAY IN AUSTRALIA :
I arrived in Brisbane, where I bought my van and equipped it with a bed (my travelling house). But I found an amazing project with an HelpX host where I stayed 7 months building a rammed earth house completely off the grid (solar electricity and water from the river). I learned a lot about construction and machineries. I only left the place to do my 88 farming days to renew my WHV visa. I worked on a cattle station for 3 and half months, where I mainly put fences and installed cattle troughs.
MY SECOND WORKING HOLIDAY IN AUSTRALIA :
Iím now half way through my 2nd year in Australia. This year, Iím doing a roadtrip clockwise around the country. Started few hours north from Brisbane (where I left my van in my aussie family). Iím a slow traveller so as far, Iíve only visited the south part of the East Coast (Sydney, Blue Mountains, Kosciuszko NP, Melbourne). On my way to Perth, Iíll soon pass by South Australia.
WHAT AM I SKILLED FOR :
- Construction (rammed earth, earth ship walls, carpentry, roofing, etc.)
- Handwork (fixing stuffs, sanding, varnishing, painting, light electricity, light plumbing, welding)
- Driving machineries (Bobcat, Telehandler, Forklift)
- Gardening (weeding, mowing lawn, pruning, chainsaw, irrigation)
- Cooking (French and international cuisine, spicy, with or without meat)
WHAT I LIKE TO DO ON MY FREE TIME :
- Hiking and exploring the coutryside
- Watching wildlife, especially bugs
- DIY projects
- Sports : rockclimbing, seafishing, surfing (Ďve been a long time)
- Playing board games
WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO LEARN :
- Sustainable farming and growing veggies
- Wild plants usages for medecine or feeding
- Eco-construction (wood, cob or mud building) and construction in general
- Still improve my english
I like sharing with others and make new experiences! Iím curious and I like to study how things work, especially when it's about environment and living world.
