Golden Bay located in the far north-western corner of the South Island isolated by Takaka Hill, infamous for overheating many old bangers being driven over by backpackers! So bring extra oil and water if planning to drive over. For those that do will be well rewarded with this amazing region of New Zealand that is surrounded by sea and two national parks (Kahurangi and Abel Tasman). It's only major township is Takaka, which has quite a hippyish feel to it. Find lots of great arts and crafts here as well as plenty of organic fair.
