We are a fit and active couple in our 70s who have recently bought a home (2021) right by the water on Lamb Island in Moreton Bay, 30km from Brisbane. It has great views over the bay and has good access to fishing, crabbing, safe swimming and boating. There is a fast and regular ferry to the mainland that takes 20 minutes. There are also several other islands nearby that can be explored including North Stradbroke Island that has wonderful beaches and walks and lots of wildlife including koalas, kangaroos, turtles and dolphin and - from June to October - humpback whales. Over the next two years we will renovate and paint the home, install new kitchen and two bathrooms. What we do: We take care of animals, we grow organic food, we prepare and eat tasty vegan meals, we minimize our impact on the earth, and we enjoy the company of our Costa Rican friends and neighbors. We have run a volunteer program for over 18 years, and have had several hundred people come to work with us! Our farm is primarily an animal rescue, rehab and sanctuary. Our doors are open to animals in need. We currently have five rescue dogs, six goats, a pig, a horse, two cats, and two water buffalos. Some came off the streets, some were abandoned, others were injured and no longer wanted. We adopt out what we can, but most are retired and happy to live their lives on the farm. Hello Helpxers, I'm look for three or four people to help me on the most beautiful farm I have just bought. Start date as soon as possible. Help needed mainly on the farm, campsite and b&b. I also will be running retreats soon. I would ask for 5 hrs a day of help for 5 days a week. I happy to be totally flexible with how the time is organised. i may ask for specific times for example if I am going to be away for a few days to take care of the animals (at the moment this consists of a puppy and two cats - hopefully this will increase soon!) I'm pretty flexible with how long you can stay but I'd prefer a minimum of two weeks and for up to four months to start with and then see how we feel after that.
