This is a certified organic macadamia nut orchard situated on 10ha in the foothills of the Waitakere Ranges Regional Park. We can pick helpers up from Swanson train station, which is 6km away. Having your own transport would enable you to explore the beautiful west coast beaches. Bethells Beach/Te Henga is 10km further down the road. Hi, my name is Marianne. I live on a classic New Zealand "tree quarter acre section" on a north facing (all day sun) hobbit hill, looking down to Oamaru. If you arrive early enough at my kitchen window or even up on the jungle hill behind the cottage, you can see the sea and watch the sunrise. A 10 minute stroll down Eden Street gets you either to the CBD or to the shoreline. I am providing three basic meals per day as well as a comfortable and quiet room for your stay and to relax after our daily four hours of working together "out there", somewhere on some befitting project. Currently the main focus is on landscaping, forging a pathway up the hill via carving out soil on one side and adding to the other side, creating little embankment walls in the process. Most of these embankments will be made from recycled Oamaru natural stone, a few with recycled glass bottles. I'm located 16km South of Te Puke on a property that has a back boundary of native forest. I'm usually able to host people at any time of year, but am busiest in the spring. I currently have building projects happening, as well as lots of painting, waxing new bee frames, and also hands on beekeeping for anyone who is keen. I also keep sheep and cattle on the property here, and hunt deer and pigs in the forest. These grass and forest fed animals form a large part of the menu here, so vegetarians probably won`t be happy with the diet. I cater to lots of herbivores and they all have hooves or paws. Lovely walks through the Woods. Take a day trip to see Cliffs of Moher, visit Galway. Listen to Irish music in one of our local pubs. You can help out in the Garden, chopping wood, watering plants and vegetables to light domestic duties. When we get time we get more creative as it's a big property and there is always something to do. You will live in your own quarters with other volunteers. Food is included. Also WIFI. The day typically starts at 11am and finishes 4pm with a break in-between. Two days off to go and explore the area. We prefer to get people for a minimum of 3 weeks stay. The help needed to be done 3 to 5 hrs per day, such as mowing grass, making firewood and regular yard and home maintenance.
