We are a fit and active couple in our 70s who have recently bought a home (2021) right by the water on Lamb Island in Moreton Bay, 30km from Brisbane. It has great views over the bay and has good access to fishing, crabbing, safe swimming and boating. There is a fast and regular ferry to the mainland that takes 20 minutes. There are also several other islands nearby that can be explored including North Stradbroke Island that has wonderful beaches and walks and lots of wildlife including koalas, kangaroos, turtles and dolphin and - from June to October - humpback whales. Our kiwi family regularly hosts young volunteers (wwoofers/helpers/interns) from our international visitors. You are treated like a member of our family, you live within our private household, share your background and experience our daily life in New Zealand. As with family members, there are no formal contracts or payment, your input is fully voluntary and you are free to depart at any time. Summer update: Things are trucking along, lots of grass due to lots of rain. The garden needs plenty of attention; there are plenty of fruits that need picking and processing. Most of the honey has been taken off, and the extracting has begun. There are still trips out to the bee sites to harvest more honey. We have a small beekeeping business. We have a large organic vegetable garden and fruit trees. Due to life circumstances, our garden needs a lot of work to return to its former glory, but we are still managing to grow some vegetables amid the chaos. We eat meat and our own eggs. We have 20 chickens and 1 dog who loves humans. We eat healthy food, but love treats too. We make our own yoghurt, kombucha, sauerkraut and kimchi, and love trying new foods. We are living since June 2011 on our farm in the most western part of Germany. The dutch border is only a few 100 meters away. The next dutch city is Sittard (3km). The next bigger German city is Aachen (35km). We are a family of five. Our son Noah is born in August 2010, our second son Mika in August 2012 and Jonah our third son is born May 2020.
