If you arrive early enough at my kitchen window or even up on the jungle hill behind the cottage, you can see the sea and watch the sunrise. A 10 minute stroll down Eden Street gets you either to the CBD or to the shoreline. I am providing three basic meals per day as well as a comfortable and quiet room for your stay and to relax after our daily four hours of working together "out there", somewhere on some befitting project. Currently the main focus is on landscaping, forging a pathway up the hill via carving out soil on one side and adding to the other side, creating little embankment walls in the process. I am a retired English teacher with an interest in all things organic. I live with my husband Richard who is also retired, and we have one dog. Winter February 2026 - opening as of Feb 8th Wow, exploring right outside our backdoor along side the Campbell River on Vancouver Island, is a beautiful place to experience Vancouver Island`s great outdoors this winter with all the wild life right in our back yard :) Although we live on a one acre town lot, our back yard is situated on a cliff over looking an accessible beautiful heritage river, with a nature park setting of ferns, Douglas fir, maple and alder trees. You can often see deer, raccoons, bears and the silver backs of salmon and Steelhead fish jumping in the ebb and flow of the river’s pools. We live on a 4 acre property, aiming for self-sufficiency. We grow all of our own eggs and meat (chickens, cattle, pigs, sheep), a large vegetable garden, and many fruit trees. We are almost completely organic, but not entirely. Tinker does a lot of preserving with our produce - fruit, vegetables, meat and eggs - using different preserving methods (pickling, pressure canning, water bathing, fermenting, dehydrating). In the winter we do charcuterie/salumi with our farm raised pigs. Ad makes home brew beer, and also likes making sausages, trying new recipes. We can teach you about these if it is possible during your stay. Let us know if you particularly want to learn something, as not everything is possible all year. This is an old country house in need of a handy man to make some small renovating jobs, construction skills would be perfect. Help in the house, maintenance 4 hours a day, 5 days a week, flexible on the time table. There are nice mountain tracks to walk. The house is at 14km from Gandia and at 18km from the beach. We are a family of three (our daughter is 3 years old) living on our family farm up the beautiful Clarence valley, half an hours drive north of Kaikoura. We have a mountain bike park on the farm, so this would be an ideal place for keen mountain bikers/ trail builders (although this is not a requirement!). If you have your own van/ self contained vehicle, there is a great spot to park up at the bike park camp ground. We need help during the season (October to April) to keep the grounds maintained and tidy. There's a pump track and jumps, so if you're travelling with your bike and enjoy sessioning jumps then this is ideal for you!!
