We are Karen and Andrew and live in the beautiful Southern Tier of New York state, about three hours Northwest from New York City. This is a rural area with lots of hiking and small towns to explore. This farm has been in the same family since it was established -- we are the sixth generation. We have chickens, a vegetable garden and about 150 acres of woods and open land. Invasive plants are always a problem, so there is plenty to do outdoors if that is what you prefer. If you are handy, there is also repair work and painting to be done. The house was built in 1852 and is showing its age. Now that fall is here, we are cleaning up the landscaping and putting in flower beds for next year. We have wildlife cameras around the property that need to be checked for a university-sponsored wildlife survey we joined this year. We offer a private room and bathroom, plus food. Howdy ! Come help to renovate an incredible cabin that was originally built as a log cabin in 1850! No experience necessary, only and openness and willingness to work and learn. I'm open to volunteers for just a couple days, a week or more. LOCATION: The cabin is in the forest on the top of a small mountain overlooking a peaceful lake on the outskirts of the town of Calumet (just a 10 min walk away). Best of all is that the property borders on 300 acres of public forest land with lots of trails for biking, hiking and exploring nature (Swedetown Recreation Area). A ride down a 30 minuet mountain bike trail and your on the shore of Lake Superior! Only 5 minutes to the big lake beach if your driving !
