This place is a beautiful property high in the hills above Cairns, that borders World Heritage rain forest wilderness on three sides, and enjoys breathtaking views over the Atherton Tableland. There are permanent creeks, waterfalls, rock pools (for swimming) and a very pleasant climate, without the high humidity that the coast can experience (in summer). Hello travellers! We’ve recently built a wonderfully energy efficient passive solar house, complete with off-grid solar for all our energy needs, rain water collection for all our water needs, and a worm farm waste management system for natural black and grey water processing. We’ve put a lot of work in to achieve a fossil-fuel-free, all-electric, household, with as small an environmental footprint as possible. We’re also lucky to live in a beautiful rural/coastal area near Inverloch, Victoria, approximately 1 hour 45 minutes south-east of Melbourne. We are close to some of Victoria’s most famous wildlife and wilderness attractions, including the Penguin Parade at Phillip Island, the Koala Conservation Reserve, and hiking and camping at Wilson’s Promontory (not to mention numerous local beaches and fishing spots only 10 minutes away!). Come and experience life on a working cattle, seed and hay property. We run 300 head of cattle on our 560 Ha home farm, set in a beautiful valley. Join in with us as we work around the property, including tasks such as mustering, stock work in the cattle yards, fencing and machinery and vehicle maintenance. Come and see what we do with the seed and hay we grow. You might like to have a go at cleaning and bagging grass seed or coming along for the drive when we deliver hay. We rely on 4WD motor bikes and tractors for many tasks and may take the time to train you how to use these safely. Apart from experiencing farm life, we look for help in our garden and vegetable garden, as well as odd jobs in and around the house. We have a bush block with a 1 kilometre frontage to Pelican Lagoon Aquatic Reserve and Pelican Lagoon Conservation Park. Work is in our large vegetable garden, rock wall building and other construction projects, track maintainance, general household duties and computer. We work a 5 hour day not including time for lunch and smoko- although all these times are flexible.
