My hobby farm is 7 acres of tropical fruit trees; Jackfruit, Durian, sapote, coconuts, banana, Rolinia, Soursop and many more. Weeding, mulching, pruning and picking is the main work needed here. As the property is on top of the Rex range at a high altitude it has views and is a few degrees cooler than the coast . There is a creek at the bottom of the property but it isnt suitable for swimming . My husband and I moved to this 240 acre farm in the South Burnett Region of South East Qld 2 years ago and have recently moved into a purpose built cottage (to reduce our footprint) relying on rainwater for the house and bore water for the gardens and to reduce our footprint further we have installed a composting toilet. 40 fruit trees have been planted and raised garden beds made which is the start of our edible oasis. Our vacancy right now is for help with early morning gardening, housekeeing, cooking and dog walking on the beach. Garden plants are growing fast, as are the weeds! As it is the hot season during February, we start in the garden about 7am after a beach walk. Regarding the DIY and timber work, our next vacancy is likely to be in March when it is cooler. From then on, we shall be looking for reasonably good DIY handymen and women, with some experience in working with wood, capable of working effectively, when necessary, on your own or as a pair and, ideally, someone who also has some gardening experience, but that is not really necessary, learn on the job! 😉👍. We are a family run business operating an Oyster Farm on Moreton Island plus a retail shop on the property selling fresh seafood. We are happy to accept travellers and have had some wonderful experiences with wwoofers already. We offer accommodation and food in exchange for work. Accommodation is a studio apartment separate from the main house. We generally only pick up people on a Thursday or Friday from North Stradbroke Island in our boat. Duties include, building water infrastructure, making oyster bags, culling and sorting Oysters, general farm hand on the land base and grading of oyster. A working day normally starts at 8am and finishes around 2pm generally and breaks for morning tea and lunch of course.
