We are a fit and active couple in our 70s who have recently bought a home (2021) right by the water on Lamb Island in Moreton Bay, 30km from Brisbane. It has great views over the bay and has good access to fishing, crabbing, safe swimming and boating. There is a fast and regular ferry to the mainland that takes 20 minutes. There are also several other islands nearby that can be explored including North Stradbroke Island that has wonderful beaches and walks and lots of wildlife including koalas, kangaroos, turtles and dolphin and - from June to October - humpback whales. The farm is well established, as most tree planting was done between 1996 and 2000, and the tree crops are well maintained and productive. Murrnong has a large established fruit and nut orchard, an olive grove, vegetable gardens, chickens, milking goats, bees, forestry for shelter and timber, and large dam for irrigation and swimming. Our house is made of timber and mud brick, and we catch our own water. We live in the inner west suburb of Petersham in Sydney, close to public transport, cafes, restaurants, shops, cinemas etc. We have hosted many HelpXers over the years and enjoy meeting travellers from around the world. We also enjoy the help with cleaning, dog walking, sorting, painting & gardening etc. We offer all meals, a queen bedroom and shared bathrooms for 20 hours work a week (each person), which can be done flexibly. And it’s fine if you want to work less hours & organise your own food. If you’re heading north, we have a place 20 minutes north-west of Taree where we’d like help with cleaning, painting, gardening etc but you’d need a car to get there. We are a retired couple living with Alex, our 21-year old son, and Alfie the labradoodle who has recently gone blind.
